Off-Campus Housing: Last year, I was in an apartment through the university because of a lack of housing for freshmen on campus. However, the apartment complex I was in, while it was large, was horribly run. Thankfully my money went to the school rather than them because it would have been a waste of money. However, my new apartment complex is much nicer. I do miss the space and the abundance of parking, but the quality is much better and the management is much better as well.

Campus Housing: We have quite a few options for campus housing. The main problem in my opinion is that we're trying to expand housing and that has led to a few problems in not having as much housing as necessary the past couple of years. Also, we have one all girls dorm that girls get stuck in even if they don't want to live there and then they have to abide by those rules when no one else on campus has the same rules. I was put there and couldn't see my long distance boyfriend as often as I could have because guys weren't allowed to stay the night even on the weekends while other dorms did not have that same policy. I did not want to live there in the first place so that was a huge let down for me.

Administration: Administration kind of varies between topics. A lot of the police officers are more concerned with breaking up parties than anything else. And some professors aren't super strict about attendance while others are. It's pretty varied but when it comes down to it they seem to try to do the right thing and follow the rules while also giving people a chance.

Athletics: Athletics here are amazing. Football is a city-wide thing that takes over on game days. We're not the top of the charts in any of our sports but our teams are filled with talented athletes and we're moving on up in the sports world. Our fans are great and being inside Dowdy-Finklen Stadium during a football game is an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone and everyone.

Greek Life: I don't know a lot about greek life on campus. The students in greek life I've encountered have mostly been kind of snobby and in their own world but there are exceptions of course. But I don't go to the parties so I don't interact with them on a regular basis.

Health & Safety: I normally feel pretty safe on campus. Our blue light system is great. However I am not on campus at night often at all so that may be different for the students that live on campus. However, when I was in the dorms I felt pretty safe but I was always aware when I was alone.

Majors: My program was really simple to get into. You just have to pass one class (introduction to psychology) with a C or higher and you could major in Psychology.

Majors: I haven't had an internship yet. I plan to have one but I am concerned about finding one in the area I'm interested in. I've been a tutor to the student athletes for a couple of months now.

Overall Experience: This is the greatest school in the country. I traveled all the way to NC from NY to attend ECU and I couldn't of made a better choice. I've seen dozens of schools in a variety of places and ECU is BY FAR the best.

Majors: I am not sure how I feel about my major as a whole yet, but my LLC is great because I have met some great study partners and friends. Biology is tough and it is a lot of information to retain but I do my best

Majors: If you really want to get into your major or program you will do anything you have to do to get there. I study a lot so that I can make good grades that way it will be easier for me to succeed in the long run.

Local Area: I love the quaintness but it is still big enough to have lots of things to do

Off-Campus Dining: The cost isn't the cheapest but if you are starving at 11 PM you will pay anything

Party Scene: The parties are wild most of the time, but still fun. Parties can be hard to find if you don't run in a certain circle.

3 College Junior

Administration: There should be more control and awareness of the underage drinking issues at the school.

Health & Safety: Too many students get robbed and mugged and assaulted far too often. There is little to no prevention or awareness services offered.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
