Campus Quality: The student recreation is only a couple of years old. It contains many basketball courts, track, and a nice weightroom.

Weather: It does not rain as often as people told me it would, but the classes are close to the dorms. Also buses take students from the dorms to the classes. It rarely snows and there aren't a lot of storms. The weather in general is usually pretty good.

4 College Junior

Academics: So far most of my teachers have been great, and the curriculum that they teach from is a very good one. I have learned critical skill within my major and the teachers try to make the adjustment from high school as seem less as possible.

3 College Junior

Administration: Campus police patrol all of campus 24/7 so if you happen to be walking on campus there is a great chance you will see one at some point. I would not say they are extremely strict but they will not hesitate to investigate something that does not look normal.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: The health and safety displayed at ECU is rather good. There is no real threats that have not been identified by authorities so whenever there is a problem campus police and security handle the situation with relative ease.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Drug and alcohol visibility is rather low, although can be found if you really look.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I wouldn't say that the Greek life stands out among the other students and clubs at the school, but you definitely know who they are when you go somewhere. Whether its them representing their house by celebration or by helping others, you can point them out instantly.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: There is an incredibly wide range of races and religions at ECU. Since students all of the country go there, it's a great mixed crowd! I have noticed that a majority of the school is white, but not by too much. Everyone seems to be pretty accepting to others and almost all thoughts and ideas brought upon by students are accepted by others, including beliefs in religion and politics.

Greek Life: The Greek life at East Carolina is amazing. Over half of the student population is in some sort of Greek group. From traditional sororities and fraternities to service and religious sororities. Most of the traditional sororities and fraternities have houses that are on campus or not far off of campus.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: While most of the resident advisors are laid back, some are very strict. If you have a strict RA, then it is pretty much impossible to not get in trouble. They can document you for talking in front of the elevator or just having the music on in your room.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: The financial aid process take a very long time to receive. Once you have applied for financial aid it may take up to three months or more to receive your final estimate.

Campus Food: Overall, there is a wide variety of on campus dining. From the dining hall, to the mexican to go place on college hill. There is even two chick-fil-a's and a Chilis. The dining hall food could use some improvement though, that is the only down fall to on campus dining. The cafeteria ladies do not care very much about the taste of the food, they just serve it, even if its cold.

Off-Campus Dining: There is a very wide variety of restaurants in Greenvile, North Carolina. Some of my favorites are Sup Dogs, Campus Calzones, and Plaza Azteca. Sup Dogs is a restaurant in downtown that is very popular with the college students, they serve many different choices in hot dogs. Campus Calzones is a delivery calzone restaurant with as many calzone options as you can think of. Plaza Azteca is a very nice mexican restaurant that has authentic mexican food. There is many other dining options around East Carolina such as indian, fast food, and Japanese.

Weather: The weather is always changing at East Carolina University. Always bring an umbrella because you never know when it will just start pouring. It does snow but not often. The school does get cancelled for big storms the may flood the area and ice on the roads.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining is varied. You can get most anything from Mc Donalds to fine dining within a 15-20 min from campus.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Night life is usually for students the are over 21. Some do allow 18-20 yr olds in as long as they don't drink. They also have Hooka bars for anyone 18 and over and they usually have pool tables if you don't care to smoke.

Athletics: Sports ECU are really big, Especially football as with many universities. The county is very pro sports as it can be seen everywhere through out the town with banks and retail stores displaying the school colors and mascot.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The dining halls are conveniently located at either end of the campus. The food is fair but never changes. It's the same thing every day of the week. So for example every Monday you get chicken and every Wednesday you get pasta. They have other choices but If you're not there early the best food is gone and they don't replace it with enough. The outside vendors seem to do well and I enjoy the food from them because they have plenty and don't run out.

Campus Food: Food sucks!! The staff is very in between about how they prepare food. Its good one day then gross the next but 50% of the time its edible. Its way over priced for the amount of food you get and the quality. That is why I opted out of the meal-plan after my first semester at ECu

Campus Housing: College suites at ECU are supposed to be the best but they are just as crowded and lack space as the other dorms. White Hall was the best I was in there last year. I get tired of sharing bathrooms with people though because girls don't know how to clean up after themselves and it gets annoying. Living off-campus is the best option its cheaper and your not roped into an expensive, crappy meal-plan like living in the dorms! Never again for me lol

Local Area: I really do not like Greenville. Coming from a big city to somewhere so small was a huge culture shock. There is not much diversity in the city itself, but the school is very diverse.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Campus life is pretty decent. There is always a program or event going on that is fun for everyone.

4 College Senior

Transportation: The transportation is really good at the school. The buses are always running. If you need a ride late at night they have a night service taxi that will come and pick you up.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: Students dont really do drugs. Alcohol is a lot more popular around the campus. But it depends on the scene you are in.

3 College Freshman

Weather: To the students at East Carolina University the acronym ECU stands for Everyone Carries an Umbrella. Needless to say, it rains a lot in Greenville, NC so if you are attending ECU make sure you have a sturdy umbrella.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
