Party Scene: Nightlife is fun. I haven't had a problem getting into any of the clubs. I am 19 and they have all allowed me in with a small cover charge of around $5.

Weather: It's nice enough when it is not raining. Rainy days are awful, sometimes it floods parts of campus. The wind here can get bad too. But since we're in eastern NC it stays fairly mild most of the year compared to other NC colleges.

Campus Food: The dining halls are terrible. You have to stand in line for poorly cooked and unhealthy food, and the servers will not honor your request for more or less food on your plate. By the time you get enough food and find seating, your food has gotten cold, or even congealed to a plastic-y pile of goop. Gross! Cooking your own pasta and steamed veggies at your own apartment is a much better option. There's other dining places at ECU, too. I like The Galley and the coffee shops. The meal plans offered are overpriced and you're pressured to use up all your weekly meals with little flexibility.

Off-Campus Dining: Surprisingly, there is some variety of off-campus cuisine in a Southern town such as Greenville. We have plenty of Asian take-out and fast food places. We have two Indian restaurants, some Thai, Mexican, and Southern. We recently got a Mellow Mushroom and a Bonefish Grill. There's eateries for all types of budgets. We have some healthy/vegan/green/local places, too.

Administration: It's a large student population, so not all crimes are reported or punished. The dorms can be pretty strict depending on the type of living community and the RAs that live there. Cheating happens. Sometimes people get caught, sometimes they don't. Class policies depend on the professor. Excusing absences is practically impossible because you have to go to the dean.

Health & Safety: There's cops all over campus at night, and whenever a crime happens on or near campus, we get text message alerts, plus emails. It's pretty easy to stay safe here, it's just common sense (watch your drink, don't go to ATMs at 3 in the morning, etc.)

Academics: Most of my instructors have been great. I have learned so much.

Majors: I am currently working to be accepted into the Nutrition Science department here at East Carolina. This major is a very competitive one, and without a 3.0 gpa you will not be accepted. You have to have completed a list of cognates which include many science, math, and humanities or social science courses. I am not a very science oriented person, therefore I have to work my butt off to get a B in many of my science classes. However, the amount of knowledge I'm gaining is indescribable, and I know that I will use everything I've learned as I continue further with my education.

Administration: ECU has rules and regulations but a lot of people do not follow them. Sometimes you get caught, sometimes you don't. If you are discrete enough you can get away with a lot of things.

Transportation: There are campus buses that will be at your service any time but it is hard to travel outside the campus if you do not have a car.

Technology: The internet signal is always pretty strong and the library has a lot of computers available for everyone to use. Its seldom times where you have to wait to use a public computer.

Majors: My major is Nutrition and I enjoy it. The classes are fun, the workload is manageable and the teachers are well-prepared. Most of the students have a wide range of experiences in the major and they offer their advise for the the real world. The internshis is long and difficult, but totally worth it.

Campus Quality: I like the school bus system- it is well-organized. The campus is clean, the buildings are close to each other. There are many academic programs that this school offers and many activities on/off campus

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of apartments available. You just have to find the right one. The apartment I live in, off-campus, was great. It was quiet, the management was good, the rent was unbeatable, and the location towards campus was amazing. I have stayed in my apartment for 3 years.

Academics: As a graduate student, I received assistance in registering for classes. Taking the classes I wanted was not a problem. I enjoyed the lectures and the professors seems prepared.

Academics: I am at ECU studying nutrition. The graduate program is online, which allows me to work full time. The workload is manageable and the classess increase your knowledge in the field of study. I'd like for the school to offer scholarship available for both graduate and undergraduate students based on the GPA. I'd like for the program to offer more variety on class selection. I like that the classes during the internship can count towards the masters degree, but the process of winning the internship is difficult.

Diversity: There is such a variation in the race and religion pool here at East Carolina. you will always meet someone from a different country or someone of a different belief. Even though we have a very large school at the same time there are so many different races and religions.

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Compared to other schools, the guys at ECU aren't as gentleman-like. The girls dress like sluts downtown. The relationships that start at ECU don't usually last after ECU.

Weather: The weather is always up and down. Carry and umbrella all the time! You never know when it will rain. It is extremely hot in the summers.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: I don't understand why we have two Chik-fil-A's on campus. The food selections are okay, but poor compared to other schools. We don't have a whole lot to choose from.

3 College Junior

Parking: ECU basically forces you to buy a parking pass. There is limited parking that is free. The parking that is free and off campus, is far away from classes.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorms get renovated all the time and they are kept clean.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: ECU has a wonderful Marriage and Family Therapy master's program. It is competitive and recognized as being accredited with the national accreditation organization (AAMFT/COAMFTE). The class sizes are very small to ensure an enriched and focused learning experience as well as opportunities to develop rapport more easily with fellow students and professors.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Coming from Orlando, the options are far more affordable in Greenville. However, the options are not as nice. If you don't mind driving and having to park on campus, there are great options in Winterville, especially if you are a graduate student looking for less-student-house-like communities. Sunchase is a great option for those who don't mind student communities. The shuttle service runs through there as well as several other communities between there and campus.

1 College Freshman

Parking: It costs a lot of money to park around campus. Most spaces are inconvenient for drivers and the walk can be long. Freshmen get the worst parking because on game weekends they have to move their cars to make room for game day visitors.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
