Campus Quality: Most buildings and facilites are old, but there is currently construction happening all the time to improve this problem.

Parking: Not enough parking. Permits cost crazy amounts of money and they make parking after hours inexcusable.

Party Scene: There are lots of options but there isn't anything that is "my scene".

Athletics: All students take part in athletic events at some point during there college experience. When football season rolls around everything revolves around ECU tailgating. ECU football did great this season and students feel a strong sense of pride and accomplishment.

Campus Food: There are many options to choose from when dining on campus. The only downside is price. Everything on campus is more expensive than it is off campus. My favorite is the two chickfila locations. You can never have to much chickfila.

Health & Safety: I have never had a first hand experience with on campus security or police. From what I can tell however is that there is a constant presence in which they patrol regularly. One thing that I have noticed that help with safety is the Blue Light security towers posted all over campus.

Off-Campus Housing: I have lived in off campus housing for the last two years. It has been very costly and somewhat under managed. Currently I have problems with parking lot lights out, animal feces all over the grass and sometimes the side walk, the gym and amenity areas are not cleaned regularly and gym equipment is broken or falling apart.

Campus Quality: ECU has the best pregame football show over any of our competitors. I enjoy going to every game and joining together with my peers in celebrating our pirate pride. ECU students know how to party.

Campus Quality: My absolute favorite part of the ECU campus is the student rec center. I use the facility 4-5 times a week and I always enjoy it. The rec center provides many forms of exercise and entertainment for students. From rock climbing to weight lifting and everything in between, the student rec center has it all.

Scholarships: I have not had many issues with financial aid. The only recommendation I would be able to make to someone seeking to apply is to opt out of the Higher One card and instead go with the personal bank account option.

Majors: I have not had an internship, but I do plan too because it is a requirement for graduation. At this point in time I am unsure where or how I will obtain an internship. When the time comes closer I will seek the council of my advisor. I am not concerned about getting one. Hundreds of students before me have been able to find one every semester with the guidance of the CJ department, I will be no different.

Diversity: ECU's campus is very diverse and everyone seems excepting of this. It is important to diversify the student population in order to foster a learning environment that is fair and equal to all who wish to attend.

Overall Experience: The campus is very clean and well maintained. There are many options for extracurricular activities.

Academics: The professors are great. They are all willing to help you. The workload is sometimes hard but it is what I expect.

Academics: My major is very hard and difficult. They people that are in it really have to work hard.

Local Area: Overall it is a good place. The people that live in the area are very friendly and open minded that we are students. They also support our football team.

Overall Experience: It is really fun here and the education is great.

Campus Food: The food is always there if you need it.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of eating places around here. If you want to eat healthy, then there is place. If you want something to eat at 4 am there is a place that is open.

Majors: I love my major because, even when it is demanding, I still find it interesting. It is what I want to do for the rest of my life, without a doubt, and my professors are definitely responsible. They make the material much more interesting.

Party Scene: Despite the fact that there are more important things about my experience here, this is possibly my favorite part of my university. There are so many options for what to do around town that, if I need to take a night off to do my school work, I never have to worry about missing out on anything. There will always be something just as fun if not better the next day. The grid is always full of private parties, and 5th street is packed with all different types of bars. (My favorite is Pantana Bob's.) There are bars open almost all day and clubs that open at night. Then, after all the bars and clubs close at 2, the restaurants stay open and get slam packed with people coming to get a late night snack before they go back to the grid or home. I've never been disappointed by my downtown experience.

Transportation: Campus busses will take you outside of campus to shopping malls and grocery stores, so people living on campus generally don't have a need for a car. We also have a safe ride system that will take you anywhere around campus at night with proof that you're a student. There are other public transportation systems, but no one really uses them because the campus shuttles cover pretty much anything you need.

Off-Campus Housing: It's hard to rate all the different living opportunities together because there are all so different. There are so many different options nearby and far from campus, but every complex has a bus route that the campus provides. You can also live in the grid, which is just a series of blocks full of privately owned houses rented out to mostly college students. The grid runs parallel to campus, so its highly convenient and cost effective to live there.

Weather: Weather is pretty unpredictable here... one minute it can be sunny and 75 and the next it'll be a full blown hurricane. Luckily, the campus is very centralized, so you'll never be left in the rain. Living in Eastern Carolina definitely has its perks. Most of the school year is a breezy 65 degrees.

Athletics: Our football team is nationally ranked, and our varsity men's basketball team won their conference last year, so it has been a great year for sports at our university. However, football and basketball kind of overshadow other sports. Intramurals are huge at my school because students are very competitive. Greek life also has their own intramural league for all sports, from volleyball to touch football.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
