Scholarships: Sometimes you will have to tug, pull, and make emails in advance to receive grants, loans, or scholarships for which you may qualify, but generally it is based off of your FAFSA and the rest is handled by the FA office.

Greek Life: Very dedicated Greek life with fraternity and sorority houses available.

Party Scene: Nightlife is pretty great, sometimes wild. Be careful and NEVER accept drinks offered by strangers!!

Campus Housing: You have to live with another roommate and the cost of living on campus compared to off campus is more expensive, but it is more convenient in that you have access to everything right there and you won't be necessary to own a vehicle.

Academics: In my program, Hispanic Studies, the workload is rigorous and teachers do not recognize talent. "Talent" is based off of academic performance, grades, and GPA, when in reality it should be based off of potential. Some students in my program earn good grades in their Spanish classes, but do not express a commitment to wanting to learn Spanish/be bilingual, nor are they experienced writers/speakers in the target language because teachers only weigh a small percentage on grammar, pronunciation, conversation and the practical part of the learning a second language. For example, with advisory approval and study abroad experience, a 1001-1004 level or Spanish minor may be able to take 3000+ level class with students who are way more advanced. This is difficult because the teacher has to grade each student according to their level, so their are discrepancies with the grading system/gpa/academic performance system because it doesn't take into account "potential" or actual "skill," only numbers.

This may vary with different departments.

Academics: A wide range of academic programs offered at ECU! The majority of the professors seem intelligent, approachable, and student-friendly. However, some professor can be a little immature and there are some you don't want to cross, or they will treat you so unprofessionally. Paul Fallon.

Guys & Girls: Guys and girls at ECU are typical, young adults who are experiencing college and being away from home for the first time. Therefore, expect anything to happen out of the situations you put yourself in and the people you choose to be around because these things will ultimately define your social standing. As a result, some people are more into the books, more into drinking, or less into studying, and more into skipping class, etc. It's all a variety.

Campus Food: Campus Dining is okay and convenient, but the services could be better and prices be lowered on some of the costs.

4 College Senior

Campus Quality: Students are very high-spirited and involved with the campus.

4 College Senior

Campus Quality: Very active and engaged campus life.

Weather: Sometimes the weather can interfere with wanting to go to class, especially for commuter and off-campus students. And given that parking is hectic, and you need a parking permit to park close to campus for your classes, sometimes you are subject to riding the bus, even if it is an early morning or late night class.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: The student health center sometimes does not offer subscriptions for medicine and students will need to go off campus to purchase products. But student may charge their accounts at the student health center, which is a plus.

2 College Senior

Parking: Hardly any spaces, too many tickets given out for parking, not enough space, and parking is cramped.

4 College Senior

Transportation: Campus shuttles are a plus for commuter students.

Parking: It was great during my freshman year because I was allowed to park very near my dorm. The cost of parking permits at ECU compared to some other colleges is very reasonable.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of places to choose from. Most places have good security and offer gated community. It is nice to be off-campus but not too far away. Buses to campus are very convenient.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I have not been familiarized with many scholarships because most of them require for you to already be accepted into your major.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: You get to know everyone and everyone is very social. There are group and dorm activities. Most of the advisors are cool. All dorms are within a 5 to 10 minute walk to classes

Greek Life: A lot of the Greek life do a lot of fun things and have lots of fundraisers. It is very expensive to get into.

Campus Food: In dining halls there is a lot to choose from. There is a variety of omlets, pizza, salad bar, meats, sandwiches. Campus dining also offers Chick-fil-a, Starbucks, Einstein Bagels, Subway, Burger Studio.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: There is a huge variety of intramural sports teams to participate in. You can even start your own team with friends. A lot of people go to watch the games and the fields are very nice and available.

Majors: I originally was planning to apply to the Nursing program. I encountered some very difficult professors and this affected my GPA , hindering me from Nursing School. Now that I have changed my major the program seems to be less difficult and suits me better. My GPA is now a lot higher than it was. I have not yet gone through the application process for my major, but it does not appear to be very difficult.

Party Scene: There is a variety of clubs and bars to choose from, however, my educational needs are a priority. On occasion when I would visit downtown, I would use bus transportation, since it free and convenient to students.

Campus Quality: The set-up of the campus is great. I really like the fact that all classes and buildings are located in one general area. It is great to be able to walk from one class to another and not have to drive or take a bus to another area, with the exception of the Nursing Campus.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: I stayed on campus my Freshman year, and participated in the FX Program. Through that program I was involved with a lot of events, and was able to meet a lot of students and instructors.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
