Off-Campus Dining: Some good restaurants close by and downtown. Not a ton of options but enough.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is a good way to get involved and meet tons of people. Most life in an adequate Greek house.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Nightlife contrary to what most think is alright. Nothing special but a lot of ALE controlling underage drinking to watch out for.

Campus Housing: Housing is average- dorms are good, dining hall is alright, atmosphere isn't for me, cost is not bad

Academics: I have never had this many opportunities to get involved and talk to potential bosses. They definitely try and encourage everyone to start looking for jobs early, and they really do a good job with it.

Transportation: Chances are there is someone from your area you can catch a ride with if you ever need to go home

4 College Freshman

Weather: The weather is random. Always carry an umbrella.

Local Area: Greenville is totally a college town, so everything revolves around the pirates!!

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The amount of choices you have to live off campus is great

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: If you get caught, you get kicked out. So don't get caught.

5 College Freshman

Campus Food: The dining halls serve great food, the only thing is that you get pretty tired of it after a while.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love edu, there's always something to do, the dorms are nice, the apartments are nice, the rec center is nice, downtown is awesome, I love it here.

Athletics: the football games and tailgates are the best things in the world

3 College Freshman

Diversity: It's pretty diverse, but people don't really care if you're different.

Off-Campus Dining: if you go here, you will be eating at Sup Dogs every weekend.

Majors: It was difficult just to get into my school. It took six months of emails and mailing paperwork to them for them to FINALLY accept. However, getting into my program wasn't hard at all but getting into my specif concentration seems like it will be.

Campus Food: Places around campus seem average. There is a Chickfila & Panda Express, which I love. There are also lots of places off campus but still within walking distance.

Majors: My specific major at ECU is very difficult and students don't last long. I'm learning to handle the work load and long hours though. However, I do not enjoy this school. I am a transfer student as well as a commuter (1hr & 15mins away) and ECU is not friendly to either. However, the major seems to have a lot of opportunities once I get through the basic courses.

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Not a status issue at this school. I don't really notice greek life on campus.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
