Diversity: When your a minority on campus aside excluding gender, you definitely notice the difference in interactions people have with you.

Drug Safety: To be honest, you rarely see drugs or alcohol when your outside, but on Thursday-Saturday nights on campus or near the residence halls, you definitely see the results of students who have taken part in drugs or drinking that night.

Overall Experience: The quality of the classes is definitely subjective to each person, but the quality of the classes significantly improves as you take higher level courses.

Health & Safety: ECU is a small campus though a lot of people seen walking around occasionally during the year whether they are going to eat, library, or some extracurricular activity. In fact, you have to take into account that there are many students in a classroom during the day in the semester too. Overall, it is hard to feel like your in danger for your life unless your walking by yourself at night. There are still police patrols every now and then but your definitely an idiot for not being cautious walking alone at night as anything can happen.

Overall Experience: ECU is a large university for a relatively cheap price. I don't think it gets the credit it deserves. The largest class I ever took was my general biology class freshman year. It consisted of 325 people. Once you get into your major (sophomore/junior year), the classes get smaller and more individualized. I've always had a good experience with professors. If you go and talk to them in office hours or after class, they're very understanding and interested in your success. The tutoring center is a great resource for students. We have an amazing library with a lot of resources. We also have a writing center in the library and on medical campus that can help you with any paper you have to write. ECU is North Carolina's #1 school for distance education, so a lot of classes incorporate technology into their curriculum. There are many hybrid classes, where you go to class once a week and do online work other days of the week. I have taken several online classes through ECU.

Overall Experience: ECU is great about helping their students find internships. Many programs have an internship built into the curriculum. I am in a program where an internship is built into my program. It's so helpful because the instructors help you find good internships and you have an internship under your belt before you graduate.

Health & Safety: ECU as a campus is a safe area. Greenville is not as safe as campus is. Campus is safe though. Obviously with parties there are dangers to being out alone. I generally do not go out at night alone if I can avoid it.

Campus Housing: The neighborhood you live in depends on the kind of experience you have. West End is where I lived and I loved it. It is close enough to classes, but is further away than Central Campus. West End is close to the rec center, West End Dining Hall, the student center (which includes 4 restaurants and the movie theater), and downtown Greenville. The rooms are a good size. There are 5 resident halls in West End, one of them being the only all-girls dorm on campus. All other halls are co-ed. Central Campus is closer to classes (5-10 minute walk) but I've heard the rooms are smaller. College Hill is close to the football stadium and other athletic facilities. College Hill is the ideal place to live for athletes. It also has a reputation of being where there is more of a partying atmosphere. They have their own dining hall and often become a family because they're so far away from everyone else. It is quite the walk to classes.

Greek Life: I am not involved in Greek Life at ECU, but it is a huge component of student life. Most of my friends belong to a sorority or fraternity. If you go to ECU, you probably know at least two or three people who are involved in Greek Life. There isn't really a divide between Greeks and non-Greeks.

Athletics: Athletics is a big part of student life at ECU. Pirate Football is a way of life at ECU. It is the highlight of fall semester. Most students come out to at least one football game a season. Pirate Football is one of my favorite parts of being a student at ECU. Even if you don't love football, games are exciting and fun. All of Greenville shares in the school spirit. We are very proud fans. School spirit is huge here. Other big sports are basketball and baseball. Intramural sports are also very popular. There are many options for all interests at intramural sports.

Overall Experience: ECU is known for it's party school reputation, but it is so much more than a party school. It is no more of a party school than any other university. ECU has rigorous undergrad and graduate programs. You must be dedicated and work to succeed in academics. There are a lot of extracurricular activities. ECU's staff and faculty are very helpful. I have loved my experience at ECU.

Overall Experience: Coming into college I was extremely scared of not being able to do well with my courses. However, East Carolina University provides students with very helpful resources to help them succeed. The professors are some of the kindest I have ever met; they're always willing to help and are very comprehending.

Health & Safety: Campus crime can occur on any university throughout the world. Not one school is completely safe. Since my commencement at East Carolina University, several crimes have occurred, a lot of them dealing with sexual assaults and robbery. However, emergency safety buttons that immediately communicated to police are found all over campus and the campus is very well lit.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is extremely convenient for all students! Everything is within walking distance, so you never have to worry about transportation. The nicest dorms, in my opinion, are found in west end. However, west end is on the complete opposite side of campus from where all classes are usually held.

3 College Junior

Athletics: In my opinion, East Carolina University lacks athletic talent compared to the other public universities in the UNC school system. However, the students show great team spirit which makes all the athletic events worth going to!

Overall Experience: I definitely do not regret the decision I made two years ago when I decided to attend East Carolina University. This school is great; everyone is friendly and the environment is just what everyone needs in order to feel comfortable. The staff and professionals at the school genuinely care about students and are always willing to help them succeed!

Greek Life: Greek students bring a lot of excitement when it comes to parties and probates. Most non-Greek students only recognize Geek students for their parties and not their actual community involvement.

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
