Academics: Academics are great for health profession majors and education. You will learn a great amount, but other people do not look at ECU as a great academic school unfortunately.

Off-Campus Housing: Almost everyone moves off campus after freshman year. There are plenty apartment complexes and there are houses in the grid, however that can be a little dangerous living in the grid.

Party Scene: Nightlife is awesome. There is always something to do. There are so many bars and the frats are so much fun, although they sometimes both get to the point that they are too packed.

Technology: There are a lot of computer labs on campus. You have to pay for prints in the library, but in places like the white dorm on west end and some academic buildings you can print for free.

Campus Food: Campus dining isn't too bad. There is a sandwich station in the dining hall that is good, along with other options on campus like chick-fil-a, a cafe food station, panda express, and more.

Majors: ECU academics is okay. The school is known as a huge party school. You will learn a lot with the great curriculum, but the school is not known by others for its academics.

Majors: They have a good nursing program, definitely not one of the best in the country like another post had said, but it is a good nursing program, especially out of the North Carolina public schools. It is very hard to get into, so shoot for all A's will taking prerequisites.

Guys & Girls: There are definitely more girls than guys. The girls are nice, but can be snobby. The guys are nice, but then again they are all college guys.

Diversity: ECU is diverse and accepting.

Greek Life: Greek life is a large part of ECU. If you are a guy, I recommend greek life as your only other option is to go downtown. If you are a girl, you can get into any frats without being in greek life, but you will miss out on socials with frats and sororities. If your not in greek life, get ready to be called a GDI all the time.

Drug Safety: It's your choice whether you want to drink or do drugs, but mostly everyone drinks.

Campus Housing: RA's are strict. You will get caught trying to smoke in the dorms, along with too much noise. There will be check ins from the RAs.

Health & Safety: At night, never walk anywhere alone. There is a lot of crime, mostly that of people who walk alone and get jumped off campus. The grid and downtown are the most dangerous to walk alone at night.

Weather: The weather is awesome. There is a short winter. When it is sunny, it is beautiful out, however when it rains, it pours. Usually the rain won't last too long.

Transportation: During the day, the campus shuttle is easy to use but only really needed if you live on college hill or are going to college hill. At night, there are campus buses that run until 2am to apartment complexes, but otherwise everything else is either in walking distance or frats have sober drivers that can give anyone a ride if you know someone in the frat.

Administration: Unless you are lucky and have a cool RA, they are very strict with drinking, drugs and noise, but even with a cool RA it is difficult. If the dorm gets a little too noisy, there will be a visit from the RA.

Athletics: Football season is the best time of the year. Greenville nearly shuts down to tailgate and go to each game.

Scholarships: Being that ECU is a Public university, very little financial aid is given, especially if you are from New York like me.

Majors: Its great to get involved because you meet so many new people. when you walk around you'll say hi to so many people even though there are so many other students on campus. you just gain so many friends that will be there for you.

Majors: with all the people I've talked to about internships, they all recommend for others to get one. they say it is easy and looks good for the resume. i do plan to apply for one and hope it is as easy as the older students say it is.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There is a good amount of diversity around campus. I'm sure some people are more ignorant, but overall not much is seen throughout.

Drug Safety: Most students drink at this school. It's pretty much a party school, and drugs are pretty available as well. Sometimes they crack down on students downtown, but it's really easy to get away with drinking underage.

Parking: its hard to find a spot and for games some have to move their cars even though it is the right lot to park in.

Health & Safety: I've always felt safe. never scared. good overall quality.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
