Drug Safety: Mostly pot and alcohol. Some heavier drugs, but not widespread.

Overall Experience: I have a had a relatively easy time getting into the classes I need. Currently, I am missing a class because it has not been opened due to budgetting issues. My professirs have all been really nice and helpful except for two, but it being my 4th year here now, it's not so bad!

Overall Experience: I'm not sure what a degree from specifically ECU gets you. To me, a degree is a degree. Other schools talk down on us because we are known as a party school, but we party AND work hard. I am new to my program so I have not yet researched what it will mean for me after I graduate.

Health & Safety: I have personally never felt like I was in danger while on campus. There is a system called ECU Alerts which texts an emails you every time there is an inicdent on campus. I however still do not walk alone at night and remain in groups.

Campus Housing: I mean, dorms are dorms. They're old and smelly but they are what you make it. Take care of your room and stay clean and it could become your favorite place. While everyone wants to live on West End because it's close to downtown, I feel like College Hill is the best neighborhood. It has the better dining hall, it's close to the football and basketball stadiums and it's actually closer to the academic buildings.

Greek Life: Although the Greek Life population is only about 25%, they are EVERYWHERE. You can't go a day without seeing someone wearing their letters.

Athletics: There's nothing like chanting "PURPLE" and "GOLD" back and forth at football or basketball games. Football season is something the whole school looks forward to and misses once it's over. The athletes are friendly and are seen as average students without special treatment.

Overall Experience: Deciding to go to ECU was a last minute decision that I will never regret making. Although it was my last choice as a "back up" school, I picked it over all my first choices (which I was also accepted to.) It's a big campus with a small hometown feel and that's what I love! Campus is beautiful, the people are nice, and the experience is unforgetable.

Health & Safety: With the emergency poles and the campus being well lit it creates a more secure and safe feeling while on campus especially being alone on campus.

Health & Safety: There are convenient safety "buttons" around campus. I took note of security quite often while walking around. I felt completely safe while on the tours of campus.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
