2 College Freshman

Local Area: There's not much to do off campus. I assume that's why so many people go to the club. That is the only thing to do for fun around here.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: Everyone accepts each other! No matter who you are someone will be your friend. This campus is so nice. I love how friendly everyone is with each other.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Campus transportation is great! There are buses to take you to each end of campus and to walmart, the mall, and even downtown. Only problem is that the buses can not go to the center of campus. You have to take a bus to possibly the library and walk the rest of the way. It isn't that bad though. Walking is good.

3 College Freshman

Academics: There is a lot of homework in general, I don't think it's just my major. I have more homework in my english classes than any other class.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Lots of people drink on campus. If you choose not to take part though, no one pressures you into it. It does not take place on campus; however, it does take place off campus and in the clubs in downtown Greenville.

4 College Freshman

Majors: There are many options for majors, but not a ton. I am a chemistry major and I want to become a forensic scientist or a detective. The problem is that I am a chemistry major, which I want to be and is good for my career, but I can't take any classes in Forensics or Criminal Justice above the basic classes unless that is my major. This is nonsense! The computer will not let me sign up for classes in those fields though unless I am registered with that certain major.

4 College Freshman

Majors: There is no application process to get into this program. It is really east to get into the college of arts and sciences at East Carolina.

5 College Freshman

Technology: There is plenty of access to computers, the school is expanding it's wifi abilities, printing is free in most places, and the network speed is pretty average.

4 College Freshman

Academics: ECU is challenging and teachers are very helpful.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There are tons of cops everywhere and you should feel safe. underage drinking is pretty prominent though,

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I'm not in a sorority, but I do know the frat parties are pretty awesome.

3 College Freshman

Technology: wish White Hall was wireless....Ethernet cable around the room is dangerous

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: i'm not really looking to see whose getting high or popping pills

3 College Freshman

Athletics: I wish field hockey club sport got more recognition

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: they are cool with non-Greeks

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: because my parents make too much money I had to take out additional loans

5 College Junior

Party Scene: Greenville has the best nightlife. There are many bars/clubs, parties, and transportation in this area. ECU provide drunk buses that run to certain off-campus apartments.

3 College Junior

Technology: There are many computer labs across campus. There are two computer labs located in the basement of two of the dorms on-campus. Many students go to the labs to print papers for their classes. These labs allow printing and internet access. Many students take their personal computers to class so they can type what the professor says.

4 College Junior

Academics: My major is Family and Community Services with a minor in Early Intervention. In this program we get to experience many things first hand. It requires a lot of hands on classes followed by an internship. I will get to pick the top three choices of where I want to do my internship and I am guaranteed one of the places.

3 College Junior

Weather: The weather in Greenville is bipolar. It rains a lot and when it does the campus is typically flooded.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are many off-campus housing options near this school. The pros of living off campus is being able to cook healthy meals, having our own bedroom, and being able to stay close to our friends. Parking is also a big plus because living on campus visitors can not park on campus during the week. Also visitor hours while staying on campus is up at 2am. Living off-campus makes the college students feel more at home and have freedom.

3 College Junior

Transportation: The transportation that is provided by my school is fairly good. Having a car on campus is helpful for the students who have a job are who do not want to wait for the bus. The bus system is not always on time which often make students late to class. Students who are traveling long distance to attend this college may need to drive their car because of less cost. There is no train station in this town so students traveling by train will have to depart from another town which could be costly due to the transportation they take to get to the station.

4 College Junior

Local Area: Greenville is an excellent place to live. There are many things for college students to do in this town. Nightclubs, bowling allies, movie theaters, shopping center, and recreations are a few things that are available to the people in this town.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: Living on campus is very convenient and has many things to get the students involved after classes. The recreation and dining halls are a few things that are in the convenience of students who live on campus.

3 College Junior

Local Area: Greenville has a lot to offer, but always think they could do more.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
