Majors: I did not have any difficulty getting into this program.

Weather: Generally the weather here isn't too bad. During the beginning of the year and the end of the spring it is really nice out which is enjoyable and it doesn't get too cold during the winter months so I don't mind walking to class. But on the other hand it rains a lot and that makes me not want to walk around campus.

5 College Freshman

Academics: I really enjoy hospitality management at my school. It is so easy to get involved and participate while having an education. I participate in class and learn a lot. All the professors are really approachable and help me whenever needed. They explain everything in great detail and it makes learning fun.

Drug Safety: People at my school use drugs but it is not too noticeable. They do it behind closed doors but it is known.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: I don't really have those conversations with friends much

Drug Safety: There is alcohol use present but it's crazy.

Off-Campus Housing: There is a large selection of housing off-campus; students can even pick from student off-campus housing if desired. Most housing is close to ECU in proximity. ECU provides transportation to many areas.

3 College Freshman

Weather: If it snows, you are guaranteed a snow day, they don't mess around here.

Athletics: I love going to the football games in the summer, it's really something to look forward to during the school week.

Transportation: ECU has a large transit system and is highly convenient. The cost for the transit system is included in students fees.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I know there are drugs used on campus, but its not peer pressuring and the people that use them won't brag about it either.

3 Recent Alumnus

Party Scene: The school's nightlife takes place in downtown. Downtown has bars, clubs, transportation, and restaurants.

3 College Freshman

Majors: It's a very hard program to get into, I feel that it's a lot of work just to be a Nurse in the end.

3 College Freshman

Majors: I have to compete with a lot of students to fit into 150 spots, its very stressful and I don't think the outcome is worth it.

4 Recent Alumnus

Technology: There are various computer labs across campus and students have easy access to them.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
