Off-Campus Dining: The cost isn't the cheapest but if you are starving at 11 PM you will pay anything

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: The parties are wild most of the time, but still fun. Parties can be hard to find if you don't run in a certain circle.

3 College Junior

Administration: There should be more control and awareness of the underage drinking issues at the school.

Health & Safety: Too many students get robbed and mugged and assaulted far too often. There is little to no prevention or awareness services offered.

Party Scene: Dangerous, girls can't go out alone. The drinking culture is insanely large. Nightclubs all over the place.

Off-Campus Housing: Mostly high prices and the students make it terrible to live next to each other because of constant parties

Campus Housing: The buildings are old and not well kept. It's very close to the classes though.

Local Area: People are absolutely crazy over the university sports team. You can't go to any business without running into the sports teams colors. So that's pretty annoying.

Majors: The majors are ok but I feel as though they are stepping stones for something better. Some of the topics in the courses are not challenging or diverse enough.

Athletics: Sports, especially football, are very important and the school makes sure the students are apart of it. There is even a club, pirate club, where students can pay one fee a year and get free tickets to all home games!

Overall Experience: most professors are good at teaching you and giving you tools and chances to do your best. But every now and then you get stuck with someone who expects you to teach yourself. Overall out of 12 classes I've taken so far, I've only had one bad teacher.

Campus Quality: The rec center is awesome. It could use more weight machines but other than that its amazing. I Think ECU has one of the best libraries.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
