Campus Housing: Living in the dorms for my first year was the best! My room was very spacious compared to others rooms. Everyone who lived in the residence dorm was very friendly. I had two RA's throughout the year and they made my first year at ECU the best. They helped me with things I needed assistance with. Whether it'd be to find a location of a building or tell me about events that were happening in the residence dorm/campus.

Off-Campus Housing: I don't know a lot about the off-campus housing yet, because I currently live on-campus. But I have been looking into finding an apartment for next year and based off of what I have found there are shuttle buses that run to each of the apartment complexes to the school, and there is a variety of options.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many options of off-campus dining. You have restaurants ranging from quick and cheap, to sit-down and more expensive. There are a quite a few places that offer discounts or deals to students, ranging from a percentage off your meal to a free tea or appetizer.

Administration: You get the basic freedom of being an adult and living on your own. In the dorms there are a few more things that they are more strict about than if you live off campus in apartments, because there are RA's, but overall they are pretty lenient about most things as long as you aren't breaking the law, then you are free to do what you please.

Party Scene: I hear that the parties are the best, but I personally do not know.

Scholarships: It was difficult for me to find the financial aid I needed, but the financial aid office was a huge help in giving me loans I could apply for. A lot of the financial aid stuff was rushed at the end, and I was worried I wouldn't be able to get the financial aid I needed for the first semester, but I ended up getting what I needed for the whole year.

Campus Food: There is a small variety of options to choose from, but if you are on the meal plan it gets very repetitive, and you tend to get tired of the same options every day. I don't prefer the dining hall usually, the food isn't bad but I usually get the same stuff every time I go, so I get tired of it quickly. The small restaurants on campus help to add variety and choice, but overall it is the same options every day which can get old quick.

Campus Housing: Campus housing has a great atmosphere and generally stays clean due to the janitorial staff. There are great amenities such as a large gym, snack store, and other food options. The dorms are kept nice, they are a little small, but compared to others they are average. Overall housing process was easy and simple, the instructions were clear and to the point, and it wasn't difficult to figure out where to apply for housing.

Campus Food: The campus food is not bad. I would just like to see more of a variety. After a while the students become bored with the same choices every week.

Campus Housing: Campus living is fun because it is easy to interact and meet many people. It also allows you to stay connected with things going on around the university with the bulletin boards and posters.

Administration: I guess campus is not super strict unless you are endangering others or yourself and/or doing something illegal.

Campus Food: The dining hall has it's good and bad days but you will most likely find something to eat if you are not extremely picky and have severe food allergies. I guess being vegetarian has its limits as well.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is okay. The dorm I am staying in is alright but it doesn't have an elevator. However cost to live in a dorm is expensive.

Campus Housing: Really the problem for where I live is that the building is just so old and is in need of a renovation. Also, we're supposed to have reliable wifi at all times and that's hardly ever the case. Another problem is that our RA has a select group of favorites who get special treatment and it's just really not fair. Living on campus does have its perks, though. I'm always super close to food and the library and all of my classes.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
