Academics: ECU has one of the best nursing programs in the country. Overall academically, classes are great and professors actually care about their students. Workloads aren't crazy which lets students balance work and having a good time.

Local Area: Greenville is a great place. A lot of good places to eat. There's also some shopping nearby like the Greenville Mall which has some good stores.

Weather: North Carolina weather is great. When it's sunny, it's a gorgeous day outside. It sometimes randomly rains but it's usually only for a short period of time.

Health & Safety: More times than not I feel very safe walking around campus. With that said, I've heard of some criminal activity going on outside of school, but they're usually just minor things. Overall, I am comfortable at ECU.

Transportation: The campus shuttles are super reliable and easy to use

Scholarships: I had a hard time getting my finical aid. It took them almost 2 months after school began to award me. I had to borrow money from a family friend to pay for tuition and housing until I was awarded.

Transportation: The school offers shuttles from most apartment complex's and shuttles downtown and to the mall and places like walmart. If you drive downtown or down 264 at rush hour expect traffic.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: The school is not very strict on underage drinking unless you're downtown.

Majors: I love my program. I'm a Criminal Justice major and my goal is to be a homicide detective. I don't have any worries about finding a job after I graduate.

Majors: It's fairly easy to get into the program. The only thing you have to do is keep your GPA above a 2.0 for one semester.

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus.

Drug Safety: I don't personally hangout with people who use drugs but I have heard that it's not hard to come across. The university does what it can to enforce a no drug policy.

Local Area: I love the town my school is located in, but it doesn't have many things to do. There is one mall which is an okay shopping center. The fact that the town has many good restaurants somewhat makes up for the lack of shopping.

Scholarships: I received all of my financial aid. Some of my scholarships were supposed to be divided so that I could receive half of the money for both semesters, but instead they gave me one lump sum. I had to make several trips to different buildings to make it all happen. One part of my financial aid allowed me to partake in Federal Work Study, which was helpful. But the process to finalize all of that was even more difficult that receiving all my scholarships.

Local Area: I like Greenville. But its really ghetto. Anything that isn't ECU isn't exactly well-taken care of. Its just a normal town with some crime because of dumb college kids. The bus only takes students to the new Walmart because the old one was where a shooting happened.

Off-Campus Housing: A lot of off-campus apartments are really convenient because they're either really close to campus, or are just a bus ride away. The ECU transit goes by most of the major apartments. There are a lot to choose from, but the most expensive ones (like University Suites) are probably the best quality. I haven't met any landlords, but the reps in the office are very helpful and nice. Parking passes are usually put onto your car. Just recently, there was an apartment fair near Mendenhall. I think they do that every year around this time of year, so that was very helpful in helping me find a place.

Greek Life: Greek life is probably the stupidest, most ANNOYING part of ECU. I hate it. I hate it I hate it I hate it. Please get rid of it. At least make sure your members are classy - not just have money.

Drug Safety: It's alright. You can't really regulate these sorts of things because kids all over Greenville do it anyway. Most students live off campus so its easy for everyone to get caught up in "the drug scene."

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
