Local Area: There are a lot of restaurants and places to shop. The traffic system is a little crazy though.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of off campus apartments to pick from, and most of them are pretty nice.

Campus Housing: Most of the dorms have quality room and bathrooms.

Weather: The only thing not average about our weather is it probably rains more than most campuses. During spring and fall it is really nice to walk around and relax on campus.

Athletics: Our school has a lot of pride, so any game you go too their is a full student section and everyone is pumped for the game.

Diversity: There is diversity when it comes to religion, political belief and sexual orientation. However the campus I attend school has a greater percentage of Caucasian students than all the other races combined.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is affordable for decent size. Living close to campus is pricey and, in my opinion, not worth it because the houses are so old and the landlords don't repair anything properly. They fix things so they will break again. Living in an apartment complex is decent, but finding a house like on Stratford Rd is your best option.

Administration: Too strict to be honest. If you can die for your country at 18, then at least give yourself a drink without the hassle!

Local Area: Nothing but restaurants. Not much for parks, but we're close to the beach! Our museums are...poor and we don't have many recreational options aside from alcohol to help pass the time.

Health & Safety: We need better light-bulbs on our campus and more campus lights. And why is our campus metered parking have no lights???

Safety first.

Drug Safety: Not bad, dont' see too many kids pilled up

4 College Junior

Athletics: Great student involvement & school spirit

Weather: Weather doesn't affect campus too much but we cancel school at the sight of ice.

Academics: Career Center and Career Fairs really help!

3 College Junior

Scholarships: It's a process, long lines and wait lines

5 College Junior

Technology: Updated software & hardware. Great job @ECU

Transportation: We have Safe Ride but that's take forever to show up... almost pointless. Busses take us to campus and to walmart, can't complain when looking at other schools.

Off-Campus Housing: The are plenty of off campus living options for students. Prices CAN vary, but most students find good deals that fit their budgets. The school provides bus transportation to and from campus from most (if not all) of the off campus living sites.

3 College Junior

Weather: When there is mention of snow or ice on the news campus shuts down. Rain is very unpredictable which is why a lot of students will always carry umbrellas and they own a pair or 2 of rain boots. It tends to flood a lot around campus as well.

Campus Housing: Although I haven't lived on campus in 3 years I remember experiencing the good and the bad. They are constantly refurbishing dorms because the campus is so old. The end product is usually 10 times better than before. However, there are still some "antique" looking dorms lingering around campus, but for the most part they are very nice.

Technology: There are computer labs all over campus - some of which are open 24/7. Rarely does the network go down and when it does ITCS promptly sends out an email saying what is going on and when it is expected to come back up. The ACE troubleshooting center is very convenient, but often very crowded.

Athletics: We are a FOOTBALL school. That's the big sport everyone attends. The school of PURPLE and GOLD are always enthusiastic about showing school spirit whether our sports teams win or lose!

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
