Off-Campus Dining: I've heard they're a variety of restaurants off campus that you can use student discounts with, so that is a plus.

Scholarships: Financial aid went smoothly, but it was quite a hassle since I am a transfer student. Tips for getting financial aid is to apply as soon as possible.

Off-Campus Housing: From what I've seen, off-campus housing is great and beautiful.

Campus Food: I love how you can use your purple card for any locations for food on campus, it is the best thing a college student can ask for. Very convenient!

Campus Housing: I will be transferring to East Carolina University this fall from Chowan University. East Carolina's campus is amazing and the atmosphere is very positive and delightful. I can not wait to become a pirate!

Off-Campus Housing: I love the Landing and cannot wait to move there. The facilities are amazing and it is gated. Quite a few of off-campus student living do not have gates to protect their residents which scares me. There is a huge list of options for off-campus housing which I think is necessary due to all the college students that attend ECU. The approximate to famous is great excluding the Bellamy and North Campus. North Campus is about a 15 minute drive from campus and the Bellamy is about ten. Off campus is the way to go unless you enjoy the dorms than on-campus os for you.

Party Scene: Downtown has the beignets crowd it seems like to me. When the frats and people in the dorms or apartments are not throwing down downtown is always the place to go. I personally enjoy a smaller group at a house party or even a big group, but house parties are my favorite by far. Downtown can be dangerous due to so many drunk people in such a small vicinity. It has negatively and positively impacted my student experience. Frats seem to be out just for sex and/or humiliating someone in the process of the party which contradicts their philanthropy efforts. I classify most frats as hypocrites. Overall the party life is pretty great if you go with the right crowd.

Off-Campus Dining: There are an endless option of food in Greenville. There are the fancy expensive restaurants which are good for when family visits are you get a good paycheck; the cheeper foods are also very good and not too far of a drive. Cookout, Taco Bell, Dunking Doughnuts, Texas Road House, Cracker Barrel, and Chili's are all fairly affordable and among my favorites. Everything seems to be in a close proximity which makes it very convenient on college students and gas!

Administration: I personally witnessed about four people being arrested and three people being wheeled to the hospital on stretchers. On Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday people would usually be drunk in the dorms by about 11pm. On week nights it would not be too loud except for the occasional cases where someone got way too waisted at a club or something. On the weekends, especially the first two months of a semester when classes were not too hard yet, people would be puking in bathrooms, laying on the ground or in the lobbies passes out drunk. Luckily the RAs or other residents called to get medical assistance on many cases that probably saved many lives. If someone was caught with alcohol underage it really depended on who caught you as to if you got in trouble. Drugs were not played with. Any pills or illegal substances such as "weed", the police were called and the residents usually lost their housing completely or were put on academic probation. Many people would visit and stay when they were not supposed to but I do not oppose that being we are to be treated like adults, as long as the guests were respectable I saw no problem in it. The enforcement of rules on campus were above average.

Campus Food: Todd Dining Hall is absolutely horrible. I do not apologize for that statement because it was the absolute worst part about living on college hill! Anywhere else was average except for my favorite food places such as the ones I marked above. For some unknown reason West End Dining Hall was always better and had fresher food and a wider variety of healthy options. The dining halls did seem to repeat the same weekly eating schedule which got old after a year or even after the first two months there. I do believe that my purple flex plan should offer more meals and pirate bucks being I payed almost 2000$ for it. Overall campus food was good excluding Todd.

Scholarships: My financial aid experience was okay. I had to call multiple times to inquire my status which took many weeks for them to settle. My parent's taxes were not accurate because my family lost our business and it was not accurately ported in which we contacted ECU and they did not let us receive any more aid which caused a huge financial burden. Scholarships were not rewarded to me despite my high GPA in high school and college. I do however have more aid for my next semester and I thank my school for the help because without it I would not be able to attend ECU.

Campus Housing: The on-campus housing was about average in my opinion. The RAs were quite rude and honestly tried to get some residents in trouble while they favored other residents. The social life was more of rumors then normal conversations but not in all cases. I enjoyed the friends I chose who were not in the midst of all the drama. The cleanliness was a bit below average. There was always a weird smell in the dorms except for certain days when the cleaning person would actually clean the bathrooms like they were supposed to. A lot of times there would be no paper towels or the drains would not be cleaned out properly from the residue of dozens of girls trying to shower each day. The RAs simply stated that that was not the cleaning lady's job, but truthfully it should have been especially when we are paying enormous amounts to stay there. Not only were we paying a lot of money to stay on campus, ECU stated that freshman students had to stay on campus and if you are going to make that rule at least keep it clean and get good RAs who actually care about their residents. The housing process was simple and within a few weeks I found out where I was staying and who I was staying with. I will complain on the fact that the roommate I had was not matched up properly with me due to a lack of an efficient roommate survey. A more inclusive and invasive survey needs to be taken because you are living with this person for a year. Overall on-campus living was average. I will personally enjoy staying off-campus next semester.

Party Scene: You are never disappointed when it comes to a party in Greenville.

Off-Campus Housing: Some off campus hosing options are great but some are not so safe.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Greenville is a big college town, so you find many sports bars and restaurants. many places offer student discount also.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: The administration can be strict as far as alcohol and drugs. their is a zero tolerance policy, and if caught you have to attend a reform program at the school.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The dinning halls tend to upset stomach when you first arrive, and over time you realize that they start serving the same foods a lot.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: If you make sure you fill out your FASFA correctly you should be mine, but if even one small minor error is found the school sends back the form. Then you must make the corrections and then wait a week to see if the form went through.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorms are not terrible but some buildings do not have elevators, so moving in and out is very difficult.

Health & Safety: I know that a lot of things go on that are bad but I have not come across a negative instance yet.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

The quality and enthusiasm of the professors who care about their students is what attracts and retains students who could have gone to larger and more prestigious schools. Greenville is quite charming and has such good local food that most skeptics love the area, or at least ECU, by the time they graduate. Although the campus police are friendly, ECU is quite strict, perhaps in an effort to downplay the “party school” reputation. The strictness, however, contributes to student safety and helps reduce the drug presence on campus. Alcohol is a problem for some students, and the clubs are tempting, but the counseling center can help students with their problems. ECU’s computer resources are excellent, and the athletic facilities are better than the teams’ records. ECU’s most enjoyable facilities are the green areas, especially because the weather here is so pleasant—crazy, but pleasant.

Whether living on or off campus, students should join organizations to maximize their college involvement and build leadership experience for their resume. With ECU’s diverse student population, new students can easily find an organization, Greek or non-Greek, that is for them. ECU is reputed to have one of the highest concentrations of pretty girls anywhere, and the guys are good-looking overall, too. The Southern hospitality creates a welcoming social atmosphere. ECU has been through sports losses and administrative shake-ups in the past, but some of the political damage seems to be getting straightened out. So, as usual, ECU students are optimistic. They will continue to be easy-going, yet serious and balanced, fun-loving learners.
