Local Area: Vibrant City – The campus is in a wonderful section in the city of Philadelphia. It is a very diverse area with many options of what to do.

3 College Junior

Administration: Drexel students know how to party, but don't go as crazy as a lot of places.

The university isn't too strict, except with marijuana.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Good Deal, Not Safe – The housing around Drexel is easy to find, and not too expensive. Most of them are nice, but once you enter certain areas the neighborhoods are no longer safe, especially in the dark.

3 College Junior

Campus Quality: Drexel University has one library for a 16,000 person population, and one dining hall for the same. That dining hall doesn't even have a bathroom. The health center is a small corner, and during the winter the small waiting room is a disease vat. The counseling center has decent staff, but too few and in unknown by most of the population. Hours for almost all facilities are inconvenient to a class and especially to a co-op schedule.

The only redeemable facility is the gym, which is new and good. However, with it being open to the entire Philly public at a low cost and the student population rising, this may soon change as well.

As far as aesthetics, Drexel is a mistmatch of ugly building with no central theme. The four trees on campus do little to make the area less ugly.

There are lots of student organizations that provide lots of opportunities for students.

Drug Safety: It Is Philadelphia – If you can name it, you can find it. But its not an epidemic or anything. Most people stick to drinking

2 College Junior

Guys & Girls: The drexel curve is a joke amongst the students that there is only one girl to every five guys. While the actual population numbers might be different than this, it seems to ring true for most classes, parties, and any candid campus photo

3 College Junior

Academics: Research Is a Must – Before taking any classes at Drexel, a smart student searches the web for reviews of professors that teach the class they are looking to take because there is so much diversity in the way classes are taught, graded, and the workload given.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: On the Unique Side of Academia – I am a Dance major with a concentration of Dance/Movement Therapy. The program at Drexel offers a different college experience which includes hands on studio classes, academic classes which range from small to lecture sized, and the wonderful opportunity to be apart of the co-op system which gives us 6 months of an internship actually working in our field. Overall the academia at Drexel University is a unique and very rich experience.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: Safe, Cultural, Fun, Philadelphia. Drexel is located in the heart of Philadelphia's University City which has so much to offer any college student and their parents. There is always so much to do on any given day or night. Next door to Drexel is the beautiful campus of University of Pennsylvania. What I like about University City is that there is so many public safety officers around not only from Drexel but also from the surrounding schools, all are very nice and willing to help protect the students no matter which school they belong to so it makes me feel safer but because we are located in the cultural city that is Philadelphia there is a million things to do whether it be shopping or going to one of the many museums located throughout the city and of course there are more than enough means of transportation to get you there.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Endless Possibilities – Drexel University is located in Philadelphia, a city filled various activities. Being a historical city, Philadelphia is filled with numerous museums about the country's independence. It also has a wide range of cultural spectacles, from art museums to concerts in several parks. With a simple and easy to use transportation system, students can go many malls and even many cities.

4 College Senior

Campus Food: There are a ton of places to eat. You have the food trucks that serve anything. Four pizza places a block from campus and much more. The hard part is eating healthy, because the quick snacks are usually not the most nutritious foods. Also, eating out too much can get expensive.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Located in the Center City of Philadelphia. Consequently, the campus is really closed to nightlife attractions.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Students come from many countries. The main campus is located in the city, so a variety of ethnicity are represented

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: Main Building – The main building was built with the attention of certain details that I like such as the furniture, paintings, sculptures, and materials.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: Really Know Your Stuff – People tend to just browse and not read the fine print. Well read the fine print you do not want to miss anything and always make sure you keep in touch with the financial aid office. Make sure to always ask questions and be on top of whatever is happening with the money otherwise...oops!

3 College Sophomore

Administration: So far nothing to severe but it really depends how bad you continue to offend or not follow the rules.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: Fantastic Opportunities – Public transportation is highly recommeded for Drexel. They have passes available for the students who wish to use them and buses are available all the time. They also have charter services that are just available to students. So it is great and enjoyable for those who do not have a car.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Very Diverse or Lack of? As a hispanic I really like to others who may look like me so I do not feel out of place. Thankfully the university does offer this kind of opportunity and yet at times it does seem like I am the only hispanic because there is such a small group of hispanics.

Campus Housing: Best Time Ever! The atmosphere around dorm living is laid back without the feel of complete laziness. It a place that will give you people of all walks of life and all people will help one another. So one does not feel out of place and connect without feeling homesick. There are things that may annoy people, but this is no different then relatives annoying you, so its just somethings you need to work through. But overall it is great.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Great Student Discounts – Great restaurants on and around the campus that offer student discounts.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: Campus Safety – Recent incidents on Campus have made the place unsafe at night

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: City Life – Drexel is always giving away free or cheap tickets to all Philadelphia sporting events including the Phillies, Sixers, Union, and Flyers. They include transportation and usually cost about $10 a ticket. They offer discount prices to almost anywhere in the city, all as a way to better familiarize yourself with your new surroundings.

3 College Freshman

Weather: Lots of Snow – Drexel is really well prepared when it comes to the snow, which sometimes is not in favor of the students. They almost never cancel classes but the sidewalks are always cleared especially for those 8am classes. The fall, spring, and summer are the best times to enjoy the campus.

5 College Freshman

Academics: Students First – I chose Drexel because of the Co-op program they offered. They are nationally known for their Nursing program and after completing a year, it is easy to know why. The professors on both Main Campus and Hahnemann Campus make it their priority to help the students. The overall city of Philadelphia was welcoming enough, but being at Drexel makes me feel right at home.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: I think paying for a permit is a waste of money. There are plenty of free parking spots a few blocks from campus. The distance just depends on the day of the week and the time you're looking. I usually have no problem at all finding a spot.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Some students complain about the "Drexel Shaft" screwing up their scheduling or billing, or a poor professor. The truth is that students will find red tape headaches and unfortunate instructors at just about every university. As long as students are picky about the professors and classes they enroll in, they can surely guarantee a positive academic experience. The University is filled with incredible professors that are more than willing to impart their professional wisdom. The Drexel Co-op is Drexel's strongest selling point, and many students come here specifically for that program. Some can't wait to graduate and zip through their classes, concentrating more on their co-op, as they feel it gives them more valuable experience. This vocational approach of the student works against the joy of the college learning experience. Some students scoff at the idea of taking electives in other academic concentrations, which they might enjoy or which could make them a more well-rounded person.

The hurry to graduate is mostly because of the fact that co-ops usually require students to stay at Drexel for five years. Students load up on courses when they are in school, try just to pass them, and complete their programs as soon as possible. This does not need to be the case, and the students that realize this earlier on tend to be immensely happier than the aforementioned students. It's unfortunate that this facet of students at Drexel feels this rush, but most of the other students relish their college experience and the various benefits Drexel has to offer. Most students are thrilled they went to Drexel in the end. The co-op is an invaluable experience that puts students ahead in the job race after graduation (it also beats any menial college job).
