3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Between co-op and the quarter system, there is never a dull moment. Lots of learning and life experiences.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Joined a few clubs and watched a few games, but with half the student population always working, there isn't as much school spirit.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Campus is in West Philadelphia, but security and police presence is strong.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: They have a lot of academic merit based scholarships.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Didn't and don't plan to go Greek, but it is a pretty active community.

4 Recent Alumnus

Guys & Girls: The students are very diverse and accepting of each other and willing to work together.

5 College Student

Campus Quality: You can find anything if you search for it(: There are even plenty of parks in Philly, you just have to go to them.

2 College Student

Athletics: It would be nice to have a football team, but that's just something that you have to forfeit.

3 College Student

Administration: Drugs and alcohol are highly regulated, just try not to be obnoxious and usually no one will bother you. Most people move off campus anyway, though. Also, it's pretty difficult to let visitors into your dorm. They need to leave a photo ID at the door and you must be in the building with them. If you leave, they leave.

5 College Student

Off-Campus Dining: You can find anything you want if you look for it - go into the historic district and/or center city

3 College Student

Scholarships: It's more generous than any public school you'd apply to, but it's still one of the most expensive schools in the nation.

2 College Student

Guys & Girls: "The odds are good, but the goods are odd."

Diversity: Drexel is mostly what you'd expect it to be. It reflects Philadelphia well - it's liberal and cosmopolitan and even fiscally diverse (despite what most people post.) Either I'm attracted to poor people, or there are just enough to have notable density. I think that many of them are from other parts of the city.

Majors: Internships are what most people come to Drexel for - its student populous is very dedicated to achievement. The Materials Science & Engineering program is pretty small, just a little over 100 people, but they are all very smart individuals and some do research that is far beyond most typical college students.

Majors: I'm in STAR and the honors program in addition to being an MSE - it was incredibly easy to get into, they really pushed me in when I first applied to the school. Some people have to apply to these programs separately but students with more competitive backgrounds receive benefits from the school. They just want you to succeed. If you are driven and get good grades, Drexel is for you.

Off-Campus Dining: Drexel's options are pretty poor, everything that is good is on Penn's campus, but its in walking distance so its worth it

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: So many Drexel alerts about robberies and shootings

Greek Life: My fraternity is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me... and that's all. All the sororities are either evil bitches or ugly mammoths that would never have a chance of getting in a real school. The fraternities are ok, some cooler than others. But greek life here is just okay overall.

Academics: I've switched majors a few times, but overall the coursework is highly intensive and beneficial towards future endeavors. The only setback is that some of the required courses, even later into the college years, are completely irrelevant and just a waste of time.

Academics: Drexel's graphic design program offers various aspects of design that you are required to learn, so that when you walk out of here you are proficient in multiple fields, which is important because design is pretty vague and the competition is extremely tough. The workload is decent. I am able to manage it, and still have fun on weekends. Some of my professors are great to work with, some are a pain in the ass. Overall, its a lot of work and can be stressful and difficult, but in the end I will have developed skills I could have never learned if it wasn't for this program.

Local Area: City life is kind of good. Not really any greenspace though

Overall Experience: The co-op program will allow me to graduate with 3 professional job experiences on my resume and the knowledge of how to navigate the professional world.

Overall Experience: I have been able to take courses that allow me to go out into the community and are not just sitting in the classroom.

Some students complain about the "Drexel Shaft" screwing up their scheduling or billing, or a poor professor. The truth is that students will find red tape headaches and unfortunate instructors at just about every university. As long as students are picky about the professors and classes they enroll in, they can surely guarantee a positive academic experience. The University is filled with incredible professors that are more than willing to impart their professional wisdom. The Drexel Co-op is Drexel's strongest selling point, and many students come here specifically for that program. Some can't wait to graduate and zip through their classes, concentrating more on their co-op, as they feel it gives them more valuable experience. This vocational approach of the student works against the joy of the college learning experience. Some students scoff at the idea of taking electives in other academic concentrations, which they might enjoy or which could make them a more well-rounded person.

The hurry to graduate is mostly because of the fact that co-ops usually require students to stay at Drexel for five years. Students load up on courses when they are in school, try just to pass them, and complete their programs as soon as possible. This does not need to be the case, and the students that realize this earlier on tend to be immensely happier than the aforementioned students. It's unfortunate that this facet of students at Drexel feels this rush, but most of the other students relish their college experience and the various benefits Drexel has to offer. Most students are thrilled they went to Drexel in the end. The co-op is an invaluable experience that puts students ahead in the job race after graduation (it also beats any menial college job).
