Local Area: The immediate surrounding area can be a little rough at times, but there is a lot to do, especially in downtown Des Moines, which is 5 minutes away by car.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: No complaints at all. You are a 5 minute drive away from downtown Des Moines and Court Avenue downtown is always hopping with bars. There is a Triple A Baseball team, the Iowa Cubs, and a Hockey team in Des Moines as well. Theatre is huge downtown and they usually get pretty big traveling shows coming in. Local food is not hard to find at all, and chains can be found more often in surrounding suburbs if that is your thing. Your Drake ID gets you free access to the Des Moines busing system is you do not have a car, just prepare to take awhile to get places.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: Drake is in a rough neighborhood but we have a lot security. Des Moines itself is great. Internship opportunities available especially for law and business students. Also Pharmacy students can get jobs at the HyVee. Drake grads in these fields have really good reputations, especially in Des Moines. Shopping is phenomenal (Jordan Creek Mall! has everything you could want), there are concerts, zoos, museums, parks (you have to find them yourself but they are accessible) the local public transportation is great too (Free with your student ID).
