Concordia is constantly referred to as a bubble in which students can live life nearly completely autonomously from the rest of society. The campus and surrounding areas are considered extremely safe by the majority of students. Minnesota State University Moorhead is a few blocks away, but the two institutions are generally in separate spheres. There are numerous places to visit off campus, as well as many things to do on campus.

Concordia’s Campus Entertainment Commission uses funds from student tuition to hold events and activities on campus. The group is devoted to creating a positive social experience for all Cobbers and creates events ranging from live Chinese acrobat performances to Cornstock, Concordia’s full-day concert held in the spring. Many students choose to stay on campus during weekends and only leave to go to stores or do other chores. With that being said, the Fargo-Moorhead area has an abundance of activities for people to do during free time. There are many restaurants and specialty drink stores that students enjoy trying on weekends. Of course, the hours of some places, like the Moorhead mall, are limited. Think of the F-M area as your ticket to the small town as influenced by the big city atmosphere of consumerism. Walking down Broadway in Fargo, seeing blinking lights and “open” signs, you will feel like you are walking through the downtown streets of a large city, only in a miniature form.
