Academic Experience

3 College Sophomore

Academic Experience: Because Columbus State is geared toward associate degrees, my major is not really applicable to the college. However, going to Columbus State is perfect because I am able to finish all my General Education Classes there rather than at an expensive four year school. The workload is bearable with my job, and teachers are understanding if something comes up. One thing that I wish they would change is to make all classes open to everyone. Because I am not with the childhood education program, I am unable to take any of those classes, some of which would be applicable to my major. This is a major drawback, however Columbus State does have a nice transfer program that I am using to attend four year universities after finishing the associate degree at Columbus State.

Academic Experience: Nearly all the professors I have had at Columbus State have been fantastic. Out of twenty classes, I have only had three teachers with some faults. For English, the teacher is really energetic during lectures, and is great apart from being biased in grading. Now, when I write my essays, I try to agree with what my teacher says in my writing in order to receive a high grade. In my history class, I love the lectures, and I love the teacher, but for a history class to be based on fill in the blank tests that the teacher said she did not even believe in, that is wrong. The last teacher is actually from a class I passed with an A. It was for an intro to French class, and the teacher did not have any speaking, and the students basically could have just read the book for that class and not come to class. This teacher read straight from the book during class, and expected everyone to understand what he wanted us to know. If I had not just studied abroad before I took that class I would have failed. Although I might be biased on the French teacher; the semester before I had taken Chinese 1 with a teacher that was fantastic and incredibly helpful.
