Campus Housing: The dorms are fine but they're what you would expect in New York City -- cramped for property.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: A lot of people say Greek life isn't very big but it is growing and seems to control much of the campus social life.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: Even if the team is good and/or successful almost no one on campus will care about them or go to any of the events.

Overall Experience: If you're looking for a big city experience with very little college experience Columbia is for you. The university blends into the city leaving very little campus community feel.

Overall Experience: I had a couple of outstanding classes, most of them were okay, a couple were awful experiences, one involving having to memorize 400 pages of theorems, formulas and tables for a Differential Equations course.

Overall Experience: Most of the companies that showed up for events were interested in market themselves, not recruit. If you are an international student, it is very, very hard to get an internship. Me and a friend applied for some 80 internship positions last Spring We had no answers at all.

Health & Safety: During my time at Columbia I never experienced any unsafety inside or around the campus.

Greek Life: I didnĀ“t try to join a fraternity. There were a couple one block away from campus, but they were in apartments, as expected in the densely populated NYC.

Athletics: Columbia, pretty much like the other Ivy universities doesn't care about getting athlete students to make consistent sport teams. Not a problem to me. Sports facilities were OK, pool was closed during the whole summer though. Even being a summer researcher, they made me pay to use the facilities during that period.

Overall Experience: Professors are passionate and it shows. Class size varies.

Overall Experience: I feel like I'm exactly where I need to be. The curriculum is very challenging but I can feel it shaping me into a stronger individual. I know for sure I'll graduate with an amazing set of skills.

Overall Experience: So far i have had decent academic experience; I have studied at VERY rigorous high school, so that most of classes were easy.

Overall Experience: There are tons of opportunities to land an internship and get a job; you just have to get out of your room and apply.

Campus Housing: Housing is good, but it's hard to get single in your sophomore year; moreover, singles are fairly small. However, overall experience is great.

Greek Life: It's almost invisible; there are fraternities, sororities and Greek housing, but they don't play big role in campus life.

Athletics: The New York has very expensive real estate, so that campus is fairly crowded - and so are sporting facilities. However, varsity sports are pretty good, and there is a free pool; also, if you come very early or very late, you can enjoy adequate gym experience.

Overall Experience: While Core might be a little boring (strongly depends on your professor), other courses, especially physics, chemistry and computer science, are very good.

Overall Experience: Courses are good here. My chemistry professors were pretty bad though. Class sizes depend on the class you're taking. Intro classes of course have more students than more specified classes.

Overall Experience: I think Columbia has a great relationship with their alumni and this relationship helps undergrads find internships/jobs with those alumni who are working. There are many career fairs throughout the year and they have many seminars about resume writing and interviews

Campus Housing: I live in Carman and it's pretty spacious for a double. There's also a lot of closet space if that's what your looking for. There's a lot of parties in Carman

Athletics: Columbia isn't really good at anything except for fencing and I had no idea when fencing matches were. I never knew when any of the games or matches were for any of the sports except basketball because I have friends who are basketball managers. But for homecoming they do make a big deal of it.

Overall Experience: I would do more research if I were to apply to this school again. I did not know what the Core was and did not know how big a part it takes up of your education. Honestly I think it's a waste.

Columbia has a unique culture and school spirit. The intense workload and level of academic rigor bring students together in a culture of cozy complaint. Columbians constantly whine about their amount of work, but they also find a way to come together and persevere, and friendships are formed in this shared struggle.

Columbia is not for the faint of heart or those who need their hand to be held every step of the way through their college career. If you need help and seek it out, you will find it. But no one is going to sit down and explain everything to you, and Columbia can be pretty intimidating for that reason. However, this means that students are given the opportunity from the get-go to be independent and to decide for themselves what their college experience will mean for them. Columbia provides amazing resources and can help you achieve just about anything, or will at the very least encourage you to pursue whatever it is you want. The academics are amazing, and the Core Curriculum gives students a shared knowledge of Western thought, which is hugely influential in the way students will approach academics, careers, and life in general. The Columbia experience is an incredible one, and any student lucky enough to get in should definitely take advantage of such a wonderful, rare opportunity!
