Overall Experience: Columbia is an amazing school!

Diversity: Columbia is a very diverse campus. One of the most diverse in fact. Around 15 percent of students are international. Because Columbia is located in New York City, it is similarly diverse.

Transportation: You walk everywhere on campus- otherwise you take the subway

Technology: The school computers are really good. I prefer to work on them, howver during final time it is possible that you have to wait for a computer.

Overall Experience: It is one of the best schools in the country and the attitude really pushes each person to go further and work harder. Also, it is in NYC- and the neighborhood it amazing.

Administration: Columbia Univeristy is a very open minded school. There is an underlying attitude that promotes alternative thinking and ways of life.

Campus Food: I mostly use the cafeteria. The food is not restaurant quality, but it is very easy to eat healthy, and there are plenty of options.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: Always able to find a computer to use and print. Almost more computers than students at times, of course many bring laptops. There are mostly PCs, but a fair amount of Macs around, which helps for ease of use and speed.

Off-Campus Dining: There's shoddy diners for those who are so inclined, and there are upscale places for those who care. Plenty of variety.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Can be really beautiful when the Sun is out. Winter gets miserable, but the campus is really easy to get around without going long distances.

Majors: The research and classes are fun, but career opportunities are a bit limited because biotech companies don't recruit at CU a lot.

Technology: They work just fine and the printing quota is great. It's just sometimes printing takes a while to do because there are so many people trying to print all at once.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I love the large campus and the city it's in. The people are intense but in a good way.

Campus Quality: Facilities could use some work here and there, but odds are you can find a place to study/dance/whatever if you need one. They're a bit dated but usually accomplish their intended purposes.

Guys & Girls: Most of the guys here are attractive, especially if you like smart guys like me. Queer scene is pretty vibrant but it can be hard if you don't put yourself out there -- though that applies to almost any dating.

Columbia has a unique culture and school spirit. The intense workload and level of academic rigor bring students together in a culture of cozy complaint. Columbians constantly whine about their amount of work, but they also find a way to come together and persevere, and friendships are formed in this shared struggle.

Columbia is not for the faint of heart or those who need their hand to be held every step of the way through their college career. If you need help and seek it out, you will find it. But no one is going to sit down and explain everything to you, and Columbia can be pretty intimidating for that reason. However, this means that students are given the opportunity from the get-go to be independent and to decide for themselves what their college experience will mean for them. Columbia provides amazing resources and can help you achieve just about anything, or will at the very least encourage you to pursue whatever it is you want. The academics are amazing, and the Core Curriculum gives students a shared knowledge of Western thought, which is hugely influential in the way students will approach academics, careers, and life in general. The Columbia experience is an incredible one, and any student lucky enough to get in should definitely take advantage of such a wonderful, rare opportunity!
