4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The teachers are great & love being involved with the students. The classes are always hands on & the professors are right there with us. I also love how the campus is integrated into the city & the different opportunities that allows us.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: There are a plethora of different option within the many fields of career paths at my college. There is no pressure to go one certain career path, in fact, the teachers and professors suggest that you branch out and test your limits.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: As any art school, it's very liberal with every ethnicity, sexual orientation, and culture. There are no challenges related to any of these topics since everyone is so different and no one has the want or need to judge anyone different from them.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: There's not a huge drug problem, but there are talks about drugs, but it's hardly an issue. There are mostly talks about marijuana and cigarettes. Alcohol is more talked about and visible since most dorms allow alcohol once you are of age. Whether or not if it's alcohol or drugs, no one is truly pressured into trying either one of them, which is an amazing aspect of my college. Policies are no drugs in the dorms and for Columbia, it is not allowed for students to bring alcohol into the dorms.

Campus Housing: Very expensive and amenities are horrible.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The students are awful and most of the teachers don't care. The school is all about making money and nothing else. The president and vice president are hacks and only care about making a lot of money.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I have never felt like I was in danger while walking around the city. Females might feel more vulnerable though.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have only had one bad professor so far, most are great. Class size stays less than 30 students (except for certain classes which have 100+). As a freshmen you can't really choose too many classes but after each year you get more freedom.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Haven't done an internship yet because they don't let freshmen do them, however, there are many opportunities.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: It's really a gamble on what dorm you get. If you get 777 south state then some rooms don't even have working air conditioner which is torture.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: This school is great but if I could redo my first year i would. You have to be outgoing to find friends in the city.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: Could be a bit better with doing more to protect the student body and overall check on the activity of guests and such.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Networking is the number one thing you should gain during your time here. It'll help you get jobs, meet future business partners, and overall it's worth it.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: You meet new friends, there's a nice lobby to do homework and such, and overall it's very nice and gives you a sense of independence

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: I enjoy the networking opportunities!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are services available for people who need them. As a freshman, being away from home, I visited the health center all the time to get checked out. I think it's great to have that on campus.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The professors really make this school what it is. If it were not for them I would not be here. The courses are okay. They are either incredible or awful, usually nothing in between in my experience.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Getting a job in a creative industry can prove challenging. However, employers know the type of people who graduate from Columbia have hands on, actual experience doing their craft in the real world. That is what makes us different and stand out in the application process.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: The quality of the building was just okay. But there unity to campus and being able to live in downtown Chicago was incredible. Prices were way too high though. Moved to the north side after my first year and cut my rent by more than half.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The hands down best things about Columbia is the opportunity to meet and work with industry professionals. Most, if not all, of our professors are professionally working in the fields they teach. That allows students to build relationships and get opportunities in real world experience.

3 College Student

Overall Experience: Up to you and your hard work.

1 College Student

Athletics: No sports at this school.

4 College Student

Overall Experience: My school is very inspiring. There is so much creativity everywhere.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: We are in the heart of Chicago, so there are some crime alerts every so often. For the most part, if you walk with a couple of friends to class and pay attention to your surroundings then you should be pretty safe.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The professors in the Audio Department are awesome. They all know what they are talking about because after class days they go out into their field and work what they teach.

Columbia College is Chicago's best-kept secret. The College can be a great asset for many students, but it's important to remember that Columbia is what it is—an art school specializing in media art. It is one of the fastest paced colleges in the United States, with some of the most up-to-date technologies on the market. It is a place that will make or break you. When you come to Columbia, you will either work harder than you have in your entire life and become somebody, or you will realize that you have another dream. Columbia will not joke around with you. Everything here is very real. Everywhere you go on campus unconsciously puts off an energy uttering the phrase, "roll up your sleeves and get to work." In every classroom, faculty member, and assignment, there is truth to your work and how your life will be if you truly want to work in the field you have come to Chicago to study. Coming to Columbia is an investment in your future and worth every penny you shell out of your pocket.

Columbia students work hard. There is passion in what they do. On the weekends, yes, they go out with friends, but more than likely what they are talking about is not how the football team did, or what happened to so and so—it's about projects, life, ideas, film shoots, pictures, shows, and stories. This is a grown-up campus committed to getting you where you want to be, but only if you are willing to put in the work.
