The College of Southern Maryland is a fantastic way to start a college career locally. Make no mistakes, this is a community college but at every turn its working to become more, and according to staff, looks to become a fully fledged university at some point. With good connections to instate universities, and competent staff, the College of Southern Maryland is a fantastic intermediary step between high school and university.

Going to a community college, you have the benefit of exploring different fields while obtaining credits for basic courses that are required. My first semester, I took 4 basic courses and 1 experimental class (Physical Education), I was interested in becoming a physical therapist. During my 3rd semester at CSM I had to fill a class, and chose Criminal Justice. I wasn't interested in that field, but after taking that course I was hooked! The class was taught by the 2nd in Command Sheriff so he was able to teach us about his job and give real life examples of events that have happened just down the street from us. This class easily was and has been my favorite class. CSM is able to provide students with professional professors that work just 10-15 minutes from campus and it really is rare to find in community colleges.

The financial process is simple and easy! I wish all 4 year universities had a system like CSM! I pay 20% down and my parents pay the rest! CSM is a great transition from High School to College and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a smooth transition that saves you a TON of money! The professors are amazing and the price is fantastic! The classes are set up pretty much the same, you have around 4-5 quizzes throughout the semester, weekly homework assignment, and 1 final/1presentation. Classes can range from basic communication courses to hands-on Nursing programs! They have a wide variety of classes to choose from for a community college. I would recommend CSM for any graduating high school student!
