3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Many opportunities available with the Langston and campus village as well as nearby complexes

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: When I was sexually assaulted on campus, the police really helped me out. They are always there for students, whether in a bad predicament or not.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Though I don't live on campus, I have visited the dorms before. They all seem open, spacious with a great social environment and appropriates rules. They all are pretty close walking distance to classes too!

Campus Food: Lots of variety, especially if you do not want to solely eat in the cafeteria. We have many cafes, snack stands, Papa John's, a chicken place serving chicken strips and mashed potato bowls, burgers, Chop'd and Wrap'd, a salad and wrap place; Quizno's, etc. I can't complain!

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Great variety of food; Mexican, Chinese, mac n cheese kitchen, pizza restaurant, a cafe and a few Subways. Enough so people can try new things!

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I have a generous University Scholars scholarship because I am a diligent student; $4500 a year helps me out a lot with affording tuition and books and I couldn't ask for more.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: I really don't know too much about the party scene, as I only commute to campus for work, school and the occasional activity sponsored for the students. I assume there's quite a few but I really am not sure.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: Though we have strict regulations on certain aspects of student life, I think it is a very positive thing. Having strict policies on drinking and alcohol, and attendance I think will promote the academia of the school and create much more potential among me and my fellow students!

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: The athletics of Cleveland State University are a big part of life on campus! The basketball games create just as much hype as CSU as the football team at Ohio State does on their campus. Cleveland State students all get into athletic events for free with their CSU ID cards and everyone in the stands really get the crowd roaring. The Cleveland State band plays extremely energetic music, to which the dance team and cheerleaders perform complex routines and the Berserkers, our very own uberfan club lead the cheers when the team goes directly head on against their opponent team. Our mascot, Magnus the Viking can be seen all over campus and social media, promoting upcoming games and the free giveaways given to those who attend. Giveaways include mini basketballs, Viking helmets, beanies in our school colors (green and white), and colorful T-shirts with creative designs!

Local Area: I love being downtown, but you never really feel safe enough to go do something on your own. But lots of great activities around.

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Awesome local and chain places to try.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Lots of police patrolling on campus, but just outside of campus is super sketchy, and I would never feel safe walking. even during the day with a small group of friends.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: You need to complete a certain set of gen. eds. before you can actually be accepted into the engineering program, but they don't explain that prior to you applying for it.

College Sophomore

Party Scene: I don't live on campus, so I can't comment on the amount of parties that go on in the dorms.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Cleveland State's motto is "the city is our campus" and with a setting like this, how can a student not enjoy all it has to offer? The city opens doors to many opportunities. No matter what major you are, the teachers are personable and easy to build a rapport with, and, most importantly, they help students gain a better understanding of the real world. With 16,000 students, you get all of the advantages of both large and small campuses, which is hard to find at other schools. The size of the classes helps students better understand the material and makes it easier to become knowledgeable in their desired areas. The city provides plenty of learning experiences that cannot be found at many other colleges.

The majority of students at Cleveland State will probably find a reason to complain about something that has taken place on campus, but the majority of those students, when asked, said they would pick CSU all over again. Once you come here, it will be hard to see yourself anywhere else because, like stated before, it provides you with many opportunities and advantages that might not be offered at other colleges. CSU is not just a place to learn what you need to know for a career, but it is also a place to grow and interact. Without the experience of Cleveland State University, a student could be missing out on the next door to their life, and that is a chance that should not be taken.
