Greek Life: Greek life is actually the most exciting thing to witness on campus. The Greeks provide a varied social atmosphere, some of the Greeks might only associate with the other Greeks while the others maintain friendships on both sides of that social spectrum. Some of the Greek organizations provide help towards community service while others cater towards the community, professors, and students. Non-greeks view Greeks as indifferent majority of the times, mostly they are friends with the Greeks . The Greek housing are pretty nice, they actually look like unique and they stand out from the country scenery of Orangeburg.

Off-Campus Housing: Honestly the off campus housing is nice, however I can't live on off campus right now because of the cost. Since we have a new dorm built on campus, Claflin released housing off campus and you had to pay rent off campus. The parking is decent, there are quite a few areas we could park around the building students live in on Russell street. The availability of the housing is broad because you could live there with a sufficient income. The convenience of this building is good because it is really close the campus. It is nice inside the building however the cost is like regular rent around 400 going up, so students would need a steady job staying there.

Administration: The school is more strict on our influences, and what we do on the regular basis with friends. They have told us they can't stop or know if we are drinking off campus but they strictly prohibit it from other being on campus. They are lenient when comes to our academics, the library is open for a longer time period around exams, they give us days to study, the visitation is slim around mid terms and exams because there is no visitation around certain hours. If you are a student and get caught once with alcohol they would give you a slap on the wrist and sign you up for classes that lectures about alcohol abuse. However the second time you are kicked out. The visiting hours in each dorm ends early so that weighs on students social lives at Claflin.

Campus Housing: Some dorms are decent and some dorms needs more tending towards it. The best options are the honor dorms and the worst options are Dunton and highrise, both female and male dorms. Sadly, for the males the dorm choices are slim Its either highrise, south, or the Commons and highrise is the cheapest dorm. Currently I live in Dunton, it's not the best but I'd rather live on campus because it's much easier to get to classes without using a car. The social atmosphere is limited, iI say limited because people stick to groups definitely since it's a small campus, some people are nice but they're more associates then friends. The cost of my dorm is 11,000 and the convenience of the dorm is okay depending if you can only afford Dunton. The housing process was smooth my first semester until I had to deal with financial issues and paying out of pocket, that's when things started getting rough.

Health & Safety: There are a few emergency alarms visible for us to use whenever we are in trouble. The security does ride around on golf carts or walk around to check if anything is wrong and to lock up things. I do feel safe on campus because everyone are separated in different groups until they go to parties. Moreover, the area is either checked by security or everyone else is somewhere else 9/10 far away from you. Also, if something happens like There's a rapist, murderer,or thief they'll sound an alarm or send you emails and texts about what's going on. They also have cameras and alarms on some doors to keep out outsiders or different residents that stays in a different dorm.

Scholarships: The financial aid was an alright and frustrating experience. The first semester I was covered; moving along into the second semester I had to pay out of pocket because the tuition was raised, which is normal. The help I received went fairly well, they put some money towards my tuition but it was slim to covering what I needed. They advised for scholarships, specifically the UNCF scholarships, because of it affiliation with HBCU's. I have applied to that website and others and have not received a scholarship yet, however I did receive one back on my first semester but it covered but so much as well.

Academics: My major is mass communication and the professors help all that they can to get us towards our aspirations. The things that I thus far is taking classes for writing and broadcast journalism. Also I was surprised to find a lot of people connected with mass. Communications around campus definitely since my campus has majority business and science majors . They also send out emails for internships that is centered around the major you have. So far, I've learned a lot from the curriculum because of the constant interaction between students and professor's.

Claflin University sets itself apart by being a small, family-oriented campus—and you will notice this from the moment you first arrive here. Everyone, from the administrators to the maintenance staff, is always warm, welcoming, friendly, and ready to assist the students. It is very hard to make enemies at this school because everyone respects everyone else and where they came from. The students and faculty come from different backgrounds, yet that does not lead to segregation.

The people here possess genuine Southern hospitality, a trait that never gets old around campus, and everyone takes pride in the rich history they have become a part of at Claflin. Everyone is always focused on their academic success and achieving the desired “Claflin Confidence.” The school constantly makes a personal effort to help students achieve all their goals by helping in whatever way they can. When you graduate from Claflin, you will not only leave with your diploma, but you will also leave with a wealth of great friendships and family bonds that you have made with others at the University. It truly is a rewarding experience.
