Online Courses: Online courses are just as demanding as a traditional course. The workload can be overwhelming sometimes, and you can easily fall behind if you procrastinate. Peer to peer interactions comes in the form of forums, which can be dead sometimes since students sometimes create a post at the last minute. Professors though are more than welcome in helping students when they need. They also tell students that if they need assistance, they can contact them through email or meet them in person on campus.

Online Courses: Online courses allows more flexibility in terms of planning out when to do the work if you have a hectic work/school/other schedule. But, online classes are just as demanding as a traditional class. Sometimes, I felt that online classes were more stressful than a traditional class in terms of workload; it can get very stressful sometimes and you can easily fall behind. Peer to peer interactions comes in the form of forums, which isn't always productive. Students may post on such forums at the very last minute, thus making the point of interactions useless. Professors though are always more than helpful when students need assistance. You can either contact them online or schedule a time to meet them in person at school. With online classes, you get immediate access to grades for assignments, projects, and exams, lessons, assignments, and other stuff 24/7.

Online Courses: The online courses didn't really go very well for me. Since I also have actual classes to go to in school, I would sometimes forget that I have online classes. Online classes are not my cup of tea, however from what I saw, there are definitely people who could handle them. There was a lot of peep-to-peer interactions on the discussion boards. The professors are also very active on the discussion boards.

Online Courses: online courses are easily done through CCSF insight, and you can interact a lot with your professor. It's almost like you're taking a one-on-one course with your professor.

Student opinions vary about online courses. Some find the flexibility and convenience wonderful, while others find the loose structure challenging because it makes them procrastinate. But the general feedback is that online courses offer students the chance to plan school around their own schedules. Dubbed "long distance learning" at City College, the online courses are designed so that students can still take classes while being away from campus.

Students take online classes for various reasons, but it should be kept in mind that online classes are not independent learning sessions. There are often clear expectations and timelines for assignments, even though students do not meet up physically in class every week. Some may feel that online courses are lacking in student-to-student interactions, but there are indeed interactions among students—the only difference being the interface.

The City College Web site for distance learning states that for Windows computers, Window 2000 and XP are recommended, with 600 MHz and 128 MB RAM as the minimum requirements. For Mac computers, the Mac O.S 10.4 with 600 MHz and 256 MB RAM is required. Beyond the basic software and hardware requirements, students should also be comfortable with using a computer and accessing the Internet.

Deadlines for projects, assignments, and examinations give many online courses a structure, and students are expected to keep themselves motivated and updated on course materials and expectations. Online courses do not differ from traditional courses in their credit system. However, the main difference between online and traditional courses is that students have more flexibility to plan school around their own schedules with online courses. In fact, the expectations for online courses are just as demanding for regular courses.

Just like regular classes, this can vary depending on the instructor and the course itself. Instructors generally make their expectations known at the beginning of the semester. When in doubt, contact the instructor of the online class for help.
