4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Christopher Newport University is a wonderful salon in which the creative mind is thoroughly nurtured. The school is really focused on the student and making sure each student succeeds. Nevertheless, the University holds each student to a high standard of personal responsibility and integrity. I would give the University "five stars" if it was not for their STEM programs. Although I am an English major, (and thus the STEM courses have little effect on me personally), I have noticed that CNU is a humanities school by nature and sometimes has trouble hiring STEM professors whom share the same desire as the school. My favorite aspect of the University is its focus on the student. Many times, Universities will involuntarily brush their students' needs to the wayside; this tends to happen with bigger schools. CNU seems to have no problem recognizing that the source of life for the school is in the individual student. That is what makes CNU truly unique.

Overall Experience: This school is a truly amazing University. Not only is Christopher Newport committed to excellence academically, each and every student is held to a high standard of basic kindness and generosity that makes the campus environment friendly and safe.

Overall Experience: The campus is absolutely beautiful and everything is close by and easily accessible. Every freshman is assigned a coordinator who I visited often to get help with scheduling, possibly changing my major, and my general future plans. I especially enjoyed the multitude of CAB events such as ice-skating, mural painting, karaoke, movie nights with free popcorn and many more! If I had to go back to when I was first choosing colleges, I would still pick CNU based off if its small class sizes, availability to talk one on one with professors, and overall safe and friendly campus.

Overall Experience: I absolutely LOVE going to school here and am very happy with my decision.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love CNU! The people, the atmosphere, the campus, and the classes are all wonderful! Only thing I would change is if there was more to do...

4 College Freshman

Administration: Rules are strict where necessary, and they're lenient where they can be.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: I'm a guy who likes food, so to have plenty of options is great.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: The scholarships opportunities are mostly for those already in their desired major programs.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The campus housing is great. The community is kind and the space is clean.

1 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Students are required to live on campus for 3 years, and all 4 years if they want to keep a scholarship. I extremely dislike the policy and disagree with its implementation

Party Scene: There are parties if someone wants to find them, it is not difficult. The perception that CNU is not a "party school" is mostly wrong, most people I know of party on weekends and holidays. It is also easy to avoid parties if one does not want to go to them

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of options for off-campus food. Many different places are within close driving distance and there are several within close walking distance when campus food becomes tiring to eat

2 College Freshman

Administration: The amount of restrictions that administration puts on students is approaching ridiculous. There is very little personal freedom in the rules, and everything is done so the school can look good on paper with good numbers

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: I applied for financial aid and received it in a timely and effective manner from the school

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: The food is tasty and while it can be repetitive is not too bad. The lack of control we have over our swipes is frustrating, there is no flexibility in the system. Few Dining Dollars are actually given with the plan

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The buildings at CNU are absolutely beautiful, and the dorms and rooms are designed very well. However, everything that comes with the rooms is a big downside. Rules are strictly enforced and student situations are rarely taken into account. Room and Board is very expensive comparatively, and the housing lottery is very poorly done and many students ended up not getting appropriate housing next year. Finally, their three year on-campus living policy is extremely frustrating for students who want to move out. The dorms are beautiful, but the policies are a big downside

Off-Campus Housing: There are some good places you just have to look and find them yourself

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are many different options to choose from when you are tired of dinning hall.

3 College Freshman

Administration: I haven't had many encounters with administration but it seems to be going well.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I was capable of receiving many scholarships but I didn't take advantage of them. They are good about getting scholarship to their students.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: They get repetitive and sometimes things aren't the best or most healthy but there are usually plenty of options you can find something you like.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The residence halls are fantastic! The people who work in them are just as wonderful. The housing lottery, on the other hand is not as great. As a former PLP member and knowing people on PLP I know that it doesn't help as much as they portray it to.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I don't know much about the off campus housing, but I do have some friends that used to live off campus. I went there once and it was pretty dirty. I would rather live on campus.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: I love the restaurants off campus. I don't go very often, but they are great for special occasions!

4 College Freshman

Administration: I thought the administration was great. I never had any problems, and they seemed to help whenever I needed help.
