4 College Senior

Overall Experience: Alumni always have jobs in their field

5 College Senior

Campus Housing: Its perfect but housing lottery sucks

2 College Senior

Greek Life: We do not have all the NPHC orgs

3 College Senior

Athletics: I do not attend school athletic events

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: I really do feel like CNU is an amazing place to go to. I can't imagine what it would be like if I chose to go to another school- it is convenient to where I live, the people are great, the faculty is great, and the experience as a whole is definitely something worth remembering in the years to come.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: It is somewhat difficult to get a particular direction when it comes to Forensics Psychology. There are classes on it and some of the subjects, but there are no majors in it (such as Criminology).

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: The campus makes sure that the students are safe which I find to be a good thing

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: I don't personally live on campus, but it seems to generally be a great atmosphere.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: They're involved in a lot of the events that go on in campus which is overall a good thing because in a way it causes more people to get involved one way or another

4 College Junior

Athletics: There is a large support system for athletics which is always a good thing to have because it does show that we as a community care about each other

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Honestly, it is one of the best decisions I have made in my life so far

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: The professors really do care about the students and whatever class they are teaching. They are very knowledgable in their subject areas and most try to get students involved with discussions in class.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Personally, I plan to join the MAT program for students who want to go into teaching. I have met many MAT graduates who are now teachers and they say this program really prepares you for the job.

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: I'd say our school is very safe. I see a police officer almost everyday (just for security reasons) and students are properly notified/warned when there is a potential threat on campus.

4 College Junior

Campus Housing: I love CNU's dorms and apartments but the housing lottery can sometimes be difficult to work with.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I am not part of any Greek organization, however they do play a huge role in what activities happen on campus. Some of their events bring tons of Greek and non-Greek students together which is awesome.

5 College Junior

Athletics: I love attending athletic events because of the school spirit and sense of community. I also enjoy participating in intramurals because you can meet new people who enjoy playing the same sport you do.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: CNU is a great school to go to because of the small class sizes, friendly people and school activities/sports.

Overall Experience: My overall rating of CNU, academically speaking is that it is the. The buildings are aesthetically pleasing and gives students a comfortable environment to learn in. Each building is unique, from Luter's Hunter Creech where the computer science majors can be found coding around, to Forbes research labs, to McMurran's study rooms where English majors can be found writing the next best seller. Each building offers students the resources that they need to learn and motivates them to do better. The class sizes at CNU are perfect for one on one time with professors. Because classes range from about 8-100 students, the majority of professors know their student just by their face. This is a benefit here at CNU because if students realize that they are not just a number in a huge crowd of thousands of student, they are more likely to put in effort to do better and be the best student that they can be.

Overall Experience: I haven't had much interaction with the career program here at CNU, but a lot of my friends have and they always boast about its wonderful opportunities. All of the staff at the center for career planning are willing and able to help situate students in internships designed for them. They understand how scary it can be, stepping foot into the real world and they take the time to get to know the student and understand what position would be best for them.

Health & Safety: The overall safety situation on campus is amazing. There is a CNU Police station located right across the street from campus. Additionally there are blue emergency boxes that have buttons to press if an individual does not feel safe, once pressed an officer will arrive on site within 2 minutes. This stadard of security is beyond compare and gives students a sense of protection for their well being.

Campus Housing: The size of the campus allows access to everything very convenient. From one side of campus to the other only takes about 15 minutes. This is ideal for students who want a decent sized campus, without feeling too overwhelmed about whether or not they are going to be late for class. The dorms are close to academic buildings and at most take 5 minutes to get to your desired location whether it be Einsteins or even the Ferg. Although relatively old, Santoro and James River dorms are in great condition and offer a wonderful living space. Their closeness to Commons is much appreciated and loved especially in the typical rainy day here at Newport News. The housing process during freshman year was very easy, as you are just assigned a dorm, room and roommates. I ran into a few problems with roommates as personalities clashed. Thankfully, the housing department was professional and helpful in getting me situated with a more appropriate living situation. Sophomore year was when the housing lottery was introduced. In all honesty, the process itself is easy as you just punch in a few numbers and names; the difficult part is getting what you want. As long as you do what is asked of you, you will have a smooth ride during the housing lottery. Additionally, the number of bike racks located all around campus is great, especially for those who love taking a ride around campus and of course those who bike to class. One other great amenity offered at CNU is the emergency boxes located all around campus. They are directly connected to the police station, located across the street from campus. You cannot go around the corner without running into one which I think is incredible. The level of security for student is superior, which is desired in any student's criteria for colleges. The overall campus and safeness is why CNU is the best.

Athletics: I have not participated in any of the sports at CNU, but I can say we do have the greatest football seasons and school spirits. At football games, everyone can be seen wearing Captain colors and sometimes even face paint! All students and even some staff attend in order to support our athletic teams. During football season, the marching band comes out to play and on nights when the weather is just right, the scene is almost cinematic. With the crowd cheering in the background and the band playing the classic hit "Hey Baby!" by Bruce Channel, and of course the football team getting pumped up, the atmosphere is just beautiful. In high school, I didn't attend very many football games but I believe that was because there was a lack of passion for them, and a lack of communal support. Here at CNU, everyone is passionate about the athletics team, even if you are not very interested. Because of this, I was able to step out of my comfort zone and attend the majority of games during the athletic season. This is why I love CNU, it's a place where you are encouraged to try something new and become comfortable with your surroundings.

Overall Experience: The campus allows students to fall in love with their new home for the next four years and creates an atmosphere only a Captain would understand. To sum it up, Christopher Newport is filled with caring faculty, eager and friendly students and an academic curriculum that is challenging to all. My favorite part about Christopher Newport University is the campus and how it is always well kept. The maintenance crew is up bright and early at 6AM preparing the grounds for the day to come. With watering flowers, cutting grass and making sure the campus is ready to be enjoyed. Every now and then I see the maintenance crew working their hardest and despite their tough job, they are the friendliest group of people. They always say hello, and work with smiles on their faces. Seeing them work to ensure that our campus is at its most finest, makes me want to work my hardest when it comes to my academics. Being able to give back to the school that gives so much, academically speaking and aesthetically speaking, is the least I can do as a student. This is why Christopher Newport is such an incredible school. The atmosphere motivates you to do better and be the best Captain you can be. I would choose this school again if i could do it all over because I cannot imagine myself anywhere else. Not only is the grounds well kept, but as a community we always hold the door for one another. I've visited many other college campus, such as VCU and Virginia Tech and sure there was the occasional door opening for one another but not to the extent that CNU does. All students and staff hold the door for one another, even if you're 20 feet away. Which is pretty great. No need to worry about running to see if you can make it through the door before it closes, the person in front of you will always have your back. I love this about CNU because it gives you a sense of respect for others and uniqueness. I love CNU and I couldn't imagine myself somewhere else.
