3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: There are some downsides to not living on campus: feeling isolated, not knowing many of the students who actually live on campus.

The courses are very challenging, which is actually something I looked for in searching for a university, and there are many different types of courses offered to students. The class sized are small, and most are hard to even get into if you aren't a Senior.

Overall Experience: There are many different types of internships and jobs that are available to students. I applied to work as a Library Assistant through the career program on campus, Career Connect. There were many available options in the Hampton Roads area for students and those with experience in certain fields.

Health & Safety: All employees, both new and old, attended the seminar on the newly revised Title IX Policy against Sexual Assault on and off campus. All students do get alerts of sexual assault, but most are at least two to three days after the incident happened, and I feel as though by then, it might be too late for anyone on campus to do anything.

Campus Housing: I do not live on campus, but after being accepted into CNU, each incoming Freshman must attend Orientation called Setting Sail. It helps the Freshman to come to terms with no longer living at home, getting used to the new atmosphere, and discussing the multiple facilities available to the students. Each student was able to spend the night in one of the rooms in the residence halls.

I was assigned to a room in York East. The shower was extremely small; most of the bathroom itself was taken up by the toilet facility (which is co-ed), and the respective sinks are outside of the bathrooms near the doors. The room was small, but large enough for the two beds, desks, and wardrobes. In fact, during my Setting Sail session, eight people were able to sleep in my room, due to staying up late, and having rooms in other buildings. Two people slept in each bed, one or two poeple could fit into a sleeping bag beneath the raised beds, and one person slept on the chairs from a desk. All in all, it was a good time, and the rooms are good for storage as well.

Greek Life: I am not in Greek Life at CNU, but I do see that they contribute to the community and do plenty of fundraising activities in and outside of the David Student Union. The main reason I have yet to pledge for a sorority is mainly due to the entrance fees, and I wouldn't know where to start in regards to which sorority I would join.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: I only say that the sports programs are alright because I do not participate in sports. I do see that there are multiple facilities available for students involved in sports, and many activities for students who are not involved in sports.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I do like attending CNU due to the closeness of the school to my own home, however, as a commuter, there is no set parking lot for us to park our cars in. Also, the parking decals are expensive, and some events the happen later on in the day do not cater to commuters.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I think that this school provides a degree with value but I also think that this school doesn't offer enough information on things after we graduate and what and how we should acquire a job after graduation.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The courses at this school are great but the general education classes that are required are often difficult and unnecessary. And it is often difficult to get the classes that you need to graduate on time.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I fell really safe at this school.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The housing at CNU is great but there are things that could be changed. The rooms are nice and big compared to other schools so that is nice and the suite styled bathrooms are great. But the housing lottery is a huge hassle and a lot of people this year did not get rooms and some people are forced to live in the same dormitories or underclassmen dorms instead of the upperclassmen dorms that were they were expected to be living in.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: There could be more sororities and fraternities on campus but other than that Greek life is good.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The athletics at this school are great but they could be a little better.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I really like the atmosphere of Christopher Newport University and the teachers and people are great. Its a really nice school and is an absolutely beautiful campus. Everyone at CNU is very polite and everyone is kind to each other.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Sexual assaults are announced but how are they being stopped?

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Courses I have taken have had excellent professors

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Career center does so much to prepare students.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I like the events the greek organizations put on.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: Not my first choice, but happy I went here!!

4 College Junior

Health & Safety: CNU and Campus Police provided the student support with great support. Students are notified whenever a crime occurs.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Generally, the course materials are presented well. The teachers seem to care and what to promote higher thinking. The class sizes are good as well.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: This a respected college that provides many career opportunities for students by hosting career fairs.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Athletics are part of the school, but I have no personal experience with any athletic group or other factors.

2 College Freshman

Diversity: Basically everyone is white and there's this vague Christian vibe to the school but if you aren't religious you're probably in the majority.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's a dry campus but drinking is standard and if you don't drink then be prepared to have some people ice you out. Drug use happens but if it's not something you want to be involved in it's very easy to avoid. Unlike drinking, no one pressures you about drug use and as long as you choose your friends wisely it doesn't need to be a part of your life.
