Overall, Chicago State University is a great school. However, if you are looking for a huge campus with a great number of students who are enjoying the college life, then Chicago State U is not for you. If you desire to come back to school and earn a Bachelor's, or Master's Degree along with students who are parents and professors who are understanding and flexible then come on in! The best time is Welcome Week which is the first week of school every semester. Student Activities work really hard to get students involved and gain a feeling of comfort at their new or returning semester. Majority of the students are friendly as well!

Chicago a Great City for Students – Chicago is a welcoming city full of attractions. In my opinion, the local attitude towards students is very positive here because there are many junior colleges and Universities throughout the city among them is the famous University of Chicago located in the Hyde Park neighborhood. So, students have a lot of choices when looking for a school in this wonderful city. The city is full of attractions for students of all ages, from museums to parks, bars, night clubs, restaurants, movie theaters, shopping malls, public libraries, and other recreational areas. Chicago State is located in the south east side of Chicago in a historic black neighborhood just 15 minutes south of downtown . The bad thing in my opinion about Chicago State University is the area where it is located because it is not a safe neighborhood. We have had incidents of armed robbery, shootings, rapes, etc. I'm concerned about my safety every time I have to take the train and bus to go to school. Chicago is a great city for students but like any other city has its dark side!

I currently use public transportation and must say I really do need a car because I live farther away from Chicago State University than some. We have a lot of parking, but many students so good parking gets scarce at times. Many end up having to find a parking spot somewhere on a street close to the school, hoping they will not get a ticket or fine. Parking isn't as close to class buildings as they should be, but greater space availability for parking is something that is greatly desired. As far as permit costs, I believe the cost for a permit at Chicago State University is absolutely ridiculous! A parking permit is about $310. I believe that many permits are expensive at many colleges. I believe that students who attend the school shouldn't have to pay such a large permit for parking especially when the students at Chicago State University must pay a mandatory fee of $113 for the Upass from CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) that is included in our tuition. The Upass is a bus card that allows students to use the CTA buses and trains while going to and from school. That's fine, but the bad part is that those who already have cars and drive to school, who do not need the Upass must pay that mandatory $113 fee! Then, they must turn around and pay an extra $310 for a parking permit. That is very unfair, and I believe Chicago State University is definitely over charging for things. This needs to change immediately!
