4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love the small size of this school. Everyone is so friendly and nice. It's the perfect school for my major. I love just about everything about this school.

Overall Experience: I have really enjoyed my college experience so far. The only thing that I would have changed is my studying habits. I never had to study in high school, so coming to college was a huge change that i was not prepared for. Other than that, I have made a lot of new friends and had some wonderful experiences.

Overall Experience: The best school for me and my major

Overall Experience: So far my college choice has been great. The class sizes allow a strong relationship between students and teachers. Applying to some of the programs at CSU, it is necessary to have letters of recommendation. The teacher-student relationship allows teacher make accurate letters of recommendation based on the student's character. I am also surrounded by people who share some of the same beliefs as me. One of my fondest experience is attending the homecoming fall feast. The Campus Actives Board provided food, bounce houses, games and music to pump up school spirit.

Overall Experience: The advisers at my school are extremely helpful and so are the older students.

Overall Experience: At first glance, CSU looked great. I was greatly excited to be going to college. As a music major, I over looked most other things at CSU focusing on the music department sense I would be there most of my time. All of the music staff here at CSU impressed me because of how well rounded everyone is. For example my percussion professor not only has taught a great deal of lessons and classes in the past, but he is an active member in the charleston symphony orchestra, performs solo literature, and puts together his own ensembles out side of his teaching job at CSU. Other than the music department, one of the things that attracted me to CSU was that it was a Christian college. I love being able to converse about my faith and be able to get together every Wednesday to worship. Because of the small population at CSU, all of my professors know me by name and I feel that I could walk up and have a deep conversation about anything without feeling like he or she does not care. They all do!

Greek Life: It's not very important, but you can participate if you want to

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Games are always fun to go to if you have time, and there is a lot of team spirit

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Nothing to crazy goes down, but if you find the right people, there's always something to do

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There is a lot of affordable places to eat in the area, most of which are conveniently open late at night. Traveling a short distance in any direction will give you even more options

3 College Freshman

Administration: It's strict, but not overbearingly so. Most of the rules make sense and are there to promote a healthy learning environment.

Campus Food: The food in the cafeteria (or caf) is pretty bad. I'd suggest eating off campus if you can afford it.

Campus Housing: The dorms are all pretty nice and spacious, its a lot of fun living there. Signing up for a room is a breeze, everybody in housing is really helpful. Everybody I've met so far are really nice and welcoming, so it's easy to make lots of friends.

3 College Freshman

Administration: I understand the reasoning behind the rules, but some of the rules are just looney. We can't have anything that can be used as a weapon, which could apply to nearly anything.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: Late notices are a given, whether or not the debt is paid. Several times they have lost or misplaced crucial information.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: I would say compared to home cooking, it is terrible. Given that they have to follow the Aramark recipes to the letter, this is understandable.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Heating cut out for a few days in the winter. Phone drops broken. Cracks in Ceiling. One or two incidents of no hot water. Lock functioned, but was still broken. However, said dorms were next in line for renovation.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Since I am only a rising sophomore, I have not had the opportunity to check out off-campus housing. Although, I have heard some derogatory comments about the price and availability of the apartments around campus. Most students who live off campus, live at home.

Party Scene: Considering that Charleston Southern University is a private, Baptist college, there is not much of a party scene. If a student did want to attend one, they may find a hand full of parties just downtown Charleston. At CSU there are plenty of party alternatives such as Elevate, sports events, SGA promoted events, etc. Although the party scene at Charleston Southern is different from the norm, it still can be a fun time!

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining at Charleston Southern University is one of the best I've ever seen. Within just a few miles in every direction there are countless options for dining out. There are plenty of fast-food, dine-in, and off the wall type restaurants. If you're looking for a cheap meal, not even a mile from the school there is a Cookout and a Sonic- two of the best grubbing places for college students. The off-campus dining situation for CSU is extremely ideal.

Administration: The policies at Charleston Southern University are worthy of following, and are upheld nicely by every single staff member. Here at CSU, it is obvious that our academic staff works their very best to enforce morals and rules everyday. The policy of no drugs, underage drinking, or smoking allows our school to maintain a clean and healthy environment. The academic policies such as attendance are very fair.

Scholarships: During my freshman year, the financial aid office was of great help. My advisor walked step by step with me to figure out my loans, books, classes, etc. Overall, it went smoothly. Going into my sophomore year now, I feel as if financial aid did not want to help me and that they focus solely on incoming freshman. Also, the help I received from financial aid was not exactly clear for a student who is still getting use to this college process. Because I am a student who does all paper work by myself, it is difficult to explain what is going on in your financial process to your parents when you don't understand it yourself.

Campus Food: The dining hall has various benefits such as the soda fountain, ice cream machine, 24/7 cereal bar, and typically great salad bar. Our Fried Chicken Wednesday is honestly the only thing that keeps me eating there because it is the closest thing to home cooked you're ever going to get. The food is typically bland, without taste, and if there's any taste, it's typically bad. I suggest signing up for only 15 meals a week because you're bound to go else where to fill your stomach. I get my fill at Java City, for they have great coffee and treats.
