Health & Safety: It could be better. To the point that I don't want to walk places by myself on campus.

Health & Safety: Public Safety keeps a close eye on campus

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I don't about a lot of campus crime, however, sexual harassment is a huge problem here. I can't walk from one place to the other without being cat called. Fortunately, I have been raised to stand up for myself but there are others who don't or won't. I wish we were able to get into all buildings on campus. I am a theatre person and when I am involved in a show I am frequently traveling back from the theater late at night. There have been several times when I have felt threatened or unsafe. That being said, if something were to happen I would not be able to escape knowing that I can only get into my building which is on the opposite side of campus. This makes me feel very nervous every night. Also, because of this people leave doors to our buildings propped open. I have returned to my building well into the night and have found the door propped open. This is a major safety concern.

The campus is very secure. Public Safety follows good policies and keeps the students safe. There has been some crime on campus—such as car break-ins, room break-ins, and vandalism—but not much else. If students are wary about walking around on campus alone at night, Public Safety will pick up students in golf carts and escort them to another area of campus. Public Safety is available 24/7 and does patrols around campus all night. The most unsafe areas on campus would be the outskirts of campus property, the areas that meet with the town's community. The community isn't particularly unsafe, but the campus is just safer.

The Proctor Health Center is accessible, and the nurses are very friendly. They do whatever they can to make sure you are healthy and feel better if you are sick. If you need a prescription, they call it in for you and let you know when it will be ready for pickup at the pharmacy.
