Health & Safety: I feel safe with matador patrol around campus when it gets late

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There have been a few incidents of sexual assaults and campus crime this past semester, but I don't feel threatened while I'm on campus. I feel safe walking by myself a majority of the time, but there are security officers around campus to help keep students feeling safe.

CSUN's security department is pretty extensive, offering a lot of services for students to take advantage of, including crime prevention workshops and viewing crime logs online. It's good that the campus police have a strong presence, as minor offenses like petty theft can happen sometimes. If you're careful with your valuables and don't leave your belongings unattended or unlocked, then you should be OK, though. Aesthetically, the campus offers well-lit pathways, allowing students to walk safely at night. Based on the services and the way the campus is set up, students tend to feel very safe.

When it comes to health services, basic care and routine physicals are free, which is great for the broke college student. Plus, low-cost, over-the-counter products are available to students without a prescription. However, other "alternative" services like acupuncture and massage therapy come at a cost for students, so the health center isn't without its setbacks. All in all, though, if a student gets sick on campus, he or she most definitely can get the right care.
