3 College Freshman

Administration: I only been on campus a couple times, but they did explain the rules and seemed to emphasize some more than others.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: I think from what I've seen that the policies promote a good environment. I am mad though because they couldn't waive my parking citation because I had a rental due to being in a car accident and therefore didn't have my permit.

2 College Freshman

Administration: CPP is very strict with alcohol and drugs use on campus.

Cal Poly’s level of strictness varies depending on the subject. When it comes to the dorms, the RAs are not very strict. As long as you generally keep the noise down and hide your drinking and partying, they will leave you alone. A student is rarely caught drinking in the dorms, unless they are being really obvious about it. The only thing the RAs are really strict about is if they catch you using drugs—because of CPP’s no-tolerance policy.

When it comes to the University Police and Parking Services, they are focused on one thing and one thing only: giving out as many tickets as possible—at least that’s what most students feel like. Make sure to abide by the parking rules. Campus parking police have a quota they need to meet each month, so they will give out a ticket for the tiniest infraction. The two biggest no-nos on campus: abusing the ducks on campus, or picking flowers from the Japanese Garden. True, some of the ducks are very bold and will fly at your face or try to steal your lunch, but if you retaliate in any way, you WILL get fined! CPP is also very proud of their beautiful garden area, and they get pretty pissed off if they catch someone snipping flowers that’s not the gardener. The fine for taking a single flower is $500!
