4 College Sophomore

Academics: As far as mathematics goes, there's only 4 fields to go into.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The classes are extremely challenging. Even Theatre is a bitch.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: The REC is awesome. I miss it so much.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Everyone has to be smart to get in.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This school is amazing. Great location, beautiful campus, and great class sizes. Despite all the drawbacks, SLO is still my favorite choice.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: C's get degrees, and with a Cal Poly degree, a career.

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Along with the added enforcement to prevent drugs and alcohol on campus, the police do make SLO a safer environment. I'd rather have strict policemen than a drugged out party scene like Chico.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: If you're in frat life, you're set for parties but in debt with cost. If not then use your frat money towards your own party expenses.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: Cal Poly is a Soccer school.

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: Usually everything comes out to be more expensive than living on-campus. Alot of people don't know that off-campus has 12-month lease and on-campus has 8-month leases.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of great places downtown. Late night munchies makes people end up at Taco bell or Jack.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: It's strict enough to the point where it's not unbearable. I've had a class that I only showed up to midterms. It is definitely not a 420 friendly school. Campus police is everywhere and even follows students up to split tree to catch them.

2 College Sophomore

Party Scene: I've gone party hopping downtown and got charged several times (I'm a guy). If you're a girl obviously it's more fun, but as a guy it's not worth it. Chico is alot better, but they are getting really scary with drug and gang violence. It's better to stay in your apartment or dorm and go drink and smoke at split tree and enjoy the view.

1 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Honestly this is such a great school but the food is terrible. Wannabe Mexican food is bland and tasteless.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: It's expensive and has too much enforcement from CA's but compared to other dorms and on-campus apartments, they are super nice and clean.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Its hard to get anything close to campus so try asking around with friends or older friends who are passing down their lease.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: SLO has wonderful restaurants ranging from cheap tacos to nice sit down dinner sort of places.

3 College Freshman

Administration: In general UPD is understanding of most situations, but when you get a warning consider yourself lucky and pay attention to it.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I myself did not receive any aid from cal poly, but I have a friend who was just awarded a $10,000 scholarship so some people do actually get them.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I love being here at Cal Poly! So far I have had mostly great experiences with my teachers and I have learned a lot from them.

Overall Experience: There are a lot of recruiters here on campus because of the learn by doing philosophy that this school follows. I feel like i have a lot of opportunities

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: There is a lot of greek life options on campus. I don't like it because i don't get to spend as much time with my friends as i used to

4 College Freshman

Athletics: The sporting events, particularly basketball and soccer are extremely fun to attend!

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I am living in Mustang Village next year. While it is moderately expensive, it is a good option for us and i think i will be happy living there

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of good places to eat downtown and near San Louis Obispo!

Cal Poly students generally have nothing bad to say about their time spent in San Luis. A good part of the permanent-resident community attended Cal Poly once upon a time, which is a testament to how much people love San Luis Obispo. Members of the community enjoy discussing time-tested traditions and activities with current students whenever they run into them. There is absolutely a shared love of Cal Poly throughout the community.

The "learn by doing" philosophy truly does permeate all majors and aspects of campus life, and this is one of the things that sets Cal Poly apart most. Students truly do get the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of people to get to produce tangible evidence of their degrees. Students are prepared extremely well for after-college life since there are so many opportunities to develop a skill set and grow. When asked about their favorite aspects of Cal Poly, nearly every student will say that "everything," "the people," and "the weather" are their favorite qualities. You can't go wrong with these three!
