Campus Food: Poor quality, and poor health options.

Campus Housing: I was not impressed with Campus Housing. I was put in a dorm I didn't select, and was very unhappy. I got in trouble for things I didn't do.

Off-Campus Housing: there aren't many options which makes getting an apartment or a house very competitive

Off-Campus Dining: So much better than on-campus food. It is a little expensive but a good thing to have every once in a while

Administration: The rule that all persons present in a room with an illegal substance (i.e. drugs or alcohol) are written up and required to take a $65 course. This is unfair to those who came and were about to leave because they didn't want to be involved with the substance and are still written up because they are in the presence of it.

Party Scene: There are a decent amount of parties going on but you don't have to participate if you don't want to.

Scholarships: The people at the financial aid office are pretty nice and are willing to work with anyone to make sure they get the money they need. Don't be afraid to call them and get help if you need.

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: it seems like they try to make the food taste bad at Metro. the food options don't really change.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms are nice but a little expensive. The food is not that great.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Great social values. There are many housing options, both new and old. THe new ones are great but I woldn't like to live in the old ones.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Its not terrible but its really not very good. It gets old very quickly.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Living in the red bricks is the best thing ever. There is always help on your homework and everyone's doors are open. Its close to most classes and always feels safe. Sometimes there is a space issue but its nothing that can't be worked out.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: Very different experiences than a lot of other schools, very little emphasis on real philanthropy/academic rigor (lots of photo ops for show, though).

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There's a Chipotle at least, so that's chill. Lots of off-campus ethnic food but nothing authentic--tastes like what white people think Asian/Mexican/Thai food is.

2 College Freshman

Party Scene: If you're a guy who isn't in Greek life, your chance of getting into a party is basically zero. I've seen groups with maybe a dozen girls and one guy where the guy's still turned away at the door. For girls, you're treated like prey. The goal is to get you as drunk and pliant as possible.

Campus Food: So awful. Be prepared to either gain weight or starve. Regardless of which you choose, you'll constantly feel like crap. It's truly shameful how bad the meal plan is here.

Campus Housing: Dorm experiences vary a ton depending on which one you live in. The red bricks are a lot more of the "traditional" dorm experience and are fun, the towers are far from classes and can get sort of insane partying-wise (there's only one RA per entire tower as opposed to one per wing in the red bricks).

Cal Poly students generally have nothing bad to say about their time spent in San Luis. A good part of the permanent-resident community attended Cal Poly once upon a time, which is a testament to how much people love San Luis Obispo. Members of the community enjoy discussing time-tested traditions and activities with current students whenever they run into them. There is absolutely a shared love of Cal Poly throughout the community.

The "learn by doing" philosophy truly does permeate all majors and aspects of campus life, and this is one of the things that sets Cal Poly apart most. Students truly do get the opportunity to collaborate with a wide range of people to get to produce tangible evidence of their degrees. Students are prepared extremely well for after-college life since there are so many opportunities to develop a skill set and grow. When asked about their favorite aspects of Cal Poly, nearly every student will say that "everything," "the people," and "the weather" are their favorite qualities. You can't go wrong with these three!
