Campus Housing: Housing is different then other CSUs. They give you the option of having a housing facility that adds to the experience of shipboard life. All Engineers and Marine Deckhands have the opportunity to live and learn in an environment they will be working in potentially. The lottery system is difficult to get in to and actually get in. It holds in to account your cumalitive GPA and class standing.

Athletics: The athletics program here is different then most CSUs. We don't have a football team or baseball team. Our three major sports are Basketball, Crew, and Men's Rugby. But with these sports the school excels in.

Overall Experience: This is a hands on school. If students are willing to get their hands dirty they can go really far here. There are so few majors here, but they push you hard so every student who is willing to give them the effort level they seek, will succeed. It is small but the way the university is setup students have no excuse not to give it their best.

Health & Safety: The security on campus is pretty good if you feel unsafe or insecure one can request a drive from the campus police, which is in surveillance everyday. Personally I feel safe and I requested a drive several times before, whenever I stay late in the tutoring center.

Overall Experience: Most professors care about the students passing and learning, they try and work with students, and most of them are available in there office hours. Most students just take classes that are going to be beneficial to there degree and also there are limited courses. The class sizes are small which is a good thing and was one of the many reasons I decided to go to Cal Maritime.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Every student attending Cal Maritime is required to internship, most undergrads complete it in there sophomore year. Every year we have a career fair and recruiters hire some students before they graduate.

Campus Housing: Housing costs are extremely high for what we are getting. The heater at my room doesn't work and my window won't lock, the rooms are pretty small. The housing process was fairly easy. The girl showers at first were horrible, but then they fixed the shower heads which was definitely a huge improvement. The people around are nice, which makes the transition easy to get use to.

Greek Life: There is no Greek life at Cal Maritime.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: The athletics department at our school sucks. There aren't many sports that one can participate in. One thinks that after a whole week of orientation one would introduce the sports on campus. The only sports that I know of are guys rugby, men's/women's basketball, men's/women's water polo, men's/women's crew, and the sailing team. I have never been to any game at Cal Maritime but I am going to guess that the fan support is not that great.

Overall Experience: As a students at Cal Maritime, you feel very cozy. It is small so you get to know most of the students and faculty. Also the professors know who you are as a student. Most people haven't heard about our school, people think it is a military school because of the uniforms that we are forced to wear. The uniforms are a real drag because even if we don't have class we still have to wear them to go to the cafeteria and get food or to go anywhere around campus. Formations are also a drag, waking up at 7:00 am every Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for about 30 minutes just to listen to announcements, when your first class doesn't start until 1:30 pm. Even though it can be a hassle sometimes, I am positive that I would chose this school again if I had the chance, because of the small class sizes, high job placement, international experience, new fond friendships, and the cool clubs.

Greek Life: We don't have any fraternities or sororities on campus.

Athletics: There are many basketball and rugby fans at school and those are the biggest sports here. There aren't many women's sports teams.

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: We are not aloud to live on campus which I personally don't like because it is cheaper.

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Not a lot of places offer student discounts and some places are a bit expensive.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Since the school follows somewhat of a military background it is pretty strict.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: You get a lot of help from the financial aid offices so you don't worry much they are always there to help.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: I don't think there are many good gatherings at school.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: There are days where you won't be able to eat anything because you won't like the food so you think it is a waste of money.

Workers at the dining center are nice so you'll like that. I believe Flex is the best part because you can always buy salads or sandwiches when you don't have time to go to lunch or dinner.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The dorms are small and old but you can still live okay in them. Living on campus can be difficult as a freshman because you might not know the area or have a car to be able to get around to things you want or places you might need to go to. If roommates were matched up a little better it would create less problems for the Resident Hall Officers. The social atmosphere is fine there many friendly people who live in the dorms you get to meet so many new people its a great opportunity to live in the dorms as a freshman. Most people would like to live off campus after freshman year because it is cheaper but living on campus is convenient because you don't need a car unless you already have one. Housing can be pretty expensive but it is worth it because you get the full college experience and meet people that will become friends for life.

2 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: It is ghetto to the extreme. You need to drive to get to a place that is okay to eat at.

Administration: I love the way they go about violations but they understand mistakes. You can get a meeting if you think it was unfair or you were wrongly accused of something. All students can over see the rules. I love it.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: You need parent support. I am looking everywhere for scholarships for next year.

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: We have a police force and you can call them anytime. They are very approachable people. We have places all over campus with a blue light if we feel unsafe for any reason we can go to a station and the police will come quickly. It is a small school with very few girls so guys do not usually date with in the school because word spreads fast if you did anything wrong. We have a great health center. They are very helpful and see you as fast as possible. We had some vandalism to our cat feeding station and we had emails sent out and a group talk about it. We are an academy so it is very safe here. A lot of veterans on campus.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: There are a lot of scary looking people and very questionable activities in town. The school has its own police force and nothing really bad happens here, but right off campus is scary if you do not have a car. We help the community as much as we can at my school. We had a Halloween for the towns kids because it was not safe going door to door.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I have had an internship with the Port of LA in my school year and summer
