Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Apply early. It's best to complete the application and apply at your earliest convenience.
  • Be well-rounded. It's not all about your grades. You'll shine even more as an individual and applicant if you are involved in your community, school clubs, sports, etc.
  • Being committed to a specific activity, like school newspaper or cross country team, shows Admissions that you're a dedicated individual and you're not all over the place with clubs and services.
  • CLU loves diversity, so if you have a good story, tell it in your application essay.
  • Get involved in clubs and organizations in which you can get a leadership position.
  • Obtain a job. CLU likes to see that you can juggle a job while attending school at the same time.
  • Retake the SAT and ACT to improve your scores if you feel like you could have done better. High test scores exempt you from certain CLU academic requirements.
  • Serving in your religious community looks good on applications.
  • Take a tour of the campus before applying, and talk to Admissions.
  • Take AP classes in subjects you'll excel in.
  • Talk to a professor in a department you have an interest in. He or she can help you with which major to state in your application.
  • Work and study hard during your high school years. It's tough, and you'll have to push yourself, but you'll be rewarded when those college acceptance letters start coming in.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Almost everyone leaves on the weekend.
  • Bring more sandals. Campus is small, and the weather is almost consistently warm.
  • Exactly how meal plans work
  • Go to the gym. You're paying for it in your tuition anyway.
  • More about choosing majors
  • Student population is small, so everyone knows everyone, or at least knows of them.
  • There are only a few main places to eat at on campus. A car is extremely helpful, especially when you want off-campus food.

Interviews are not used for admission into CLU. For information on admissions or to schedule an interview with an admissions counselor, prospective students can call the Office of Undergraduate Admission at (805) 493-3135 during business hours Monday through Friday or email the office at
Campus Tours
Campus tours are led by current CLU students who are called presidential hosts. Individual and group visits can be scheduled at Tour reservations must be scheduled at least two weeks prior to the visit. Tours lasts about an hour and are conducted Monday through Friday at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 3 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m.
Overnight Visits
CLU offers the Fall/Spring Into CLU overnight experience which provides high school seniors and transfers the opportunity to spend a night with current CLU students, sit in on academic classes, meet with professors and admissions counselors, and briefly experience the CLU college life. This experience takes place twice a semester.
