As a freshman I still haven't had a full experience of the school, but overall if you're able to afford this school one way or another it's a good place to be. Once you find your people it makes the overall experience enjoyable despite the ups and downs of the university as a whole. I would still like to understand where our tuition is going towards and also to see more scholarships that can be applied towards housing and meal plans for other people besides athletes.
As an institution, Butler likes to boast about its roots. It makes lofty claims about inclusion and diversity and yet the student body does not reflect these values. The professors are wonderful. If you can ignore the bureaucracy of the academic system, you will be happy to take classes with such dedicated and wonderful professors. The student housing system needs a complete overhaul, if you can pay to stay in the updated dorms then you are in luck, others who are hoping to save on housing expenses will have to suffer through dorms and apartments with many deficiencies. Overall, know what you are going into. Be critical of the claims made by the institution on a whole and know that the grand updated schemes and buildings presented on tours are not the full experience. If you find a connection with the professors and a truly compelling academic reason to pick Butler then you can find the small moments and settings that make Butler special.
Overall Butler was a good experience for me. I mostly would have changed the accessibility of the campus. The price of the food was also a little ridiculous. Most of the professors were pretty helpful, only some were problematic and pretty much everyone knew who they were.
