Drug Safety

{{ error }}
5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Drugs and alcohol are present (because it's still college) but hidden, because there's so much peer pressure to NOT use either, and the policies against both are very strictly enforced.

5 College Senior

Drug Safety: Drug use instances are few and far between here. I've never once been to a party where there was any drugs or alcohol while attending school here, and I've never been offered any drugs here either.

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: I personally don't know anyone at BYU that does drugs. Everyone is pretty self-disciplined in that regard.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Brigham Young University is a religious university, where the acts of using drugs and alcohol and smoking are not in compliance with the way we live our lives. We believe that it is against the commandments to partake of these substances, and as such, there is a strict no-drug-no-alcohol policy but it is driven more by personal morality and cleanliness. As such, BYU probably has some of the least about of drug and alcohol use on campus. As far as safety goes, I personally have not seen any dangers or felt like I was in a dangerous situation. But still, you should always be careful and cautious, but that goes for everywhere else as well. I fell very safe at BYU.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's BYU! I haven't even heard of anyone getting into trouble for drinking or using drugs. Parties and other social gatherings are plenty fun without alcohol.

Again, due to the Honor Code, drugs are strictly prohibited and rarely seen or heard of. Students deeply appreciate the problems that are avoided by having a drug-free and dry campus and community. The safety benefits and lack of drug- related violence and drunk-driving problems really reinforce students' commitments to follow these policies. Due to the Mormon culture at BYU, it is unlikely that there would be drug or alcohol problems-even without the Honor Code.

BYU is certainly an anomaly in having such strict rules, but students appreciate the benefits, and the policies are not likely to ever change. There really is no drug scene at BYU, and there probably never will be.
