Majors: I am applying for the Nursing program. As with most Nursing programs, it is very difficult to get in. To even be considered you must have straight A's, great work ethic, work experience and many other things. I am going to begin applying to the program this month and I am very nervous. I know that BYUI has amazing programs and wonderful professors however the initial entry to the program will be difficult.

Local Area: Very friendly, the people are nice to others, being generous and kind to others. From personal experience and others, it does seem hard to make and keep friends. You meet nice people that seem to be your friend, but only upfront. It seems hard to keep friends.

Campus Food: Rexburg is quite the small town and doesn't have a whole lot of options to go dining in. The dining halls are ok, decent food and an alright price for the most part, others are over priced for what they make. Every restaurant uses a starving student card discount, which gives a discount from the card that you buy, its not a whole lot off, but its still nice to have.

Off-Campus Housing: The apartment complexes that are close to the school, are cheap and really old. The apartment complexes that are far away are really nice, hotel status, but expensive. In the winter it's nice to be close to school, but you want to live in a nice place, but if you live in a nice place, you're far away.

Guys & Girls: Most of the people are pretty nice. Everyone is expected to look presentable, so the looks are pretty good overall. Interests vary, so that's good to have diversity. There are lots of ways to get involved so that also makes things fun.

Athletics: They don't have their own football team, which is my favorite. Most of the action happens on the main campus (BYU-Provo), so we don't get much at our campus. If we want sports, we go to Provo, UT to the main BYU campus. Most sports are recreational at BYU-Idaho.

Party Scene: there are many of party's or dances every week, there is always something to do

Off-Campus Dining: all dining options are near the school and at a good price also very tasty

Campus Food: the dining hall is located in the middle of the campus, and has lots of variety and price.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at BYU-I is pretty much none existent. The school has a no drug policy as part of it's honor code and if you break the honor you are dismissed from the school. As always if you want to find something bad enough you can find it but you have to look pretty hard.

Campus Quality: The campus is very well taken care of and there are many things to do. There is always something going on from sporting events to concerts. There is a huge gym for working out and the new I-center has 12 full size basketball courts.

Drug Safety: Although it is pretty much impossible to eliminate all drug instances on at school, BYU-Idaho does a great job of keeping the numbers very, very low. The lowest of and school I have seen.

Athletics: There are no set team sports on campus that play against other schools, but there are ample opportunities to play sports within the school.

Health & Safety: There is not a lot of crime here. They have security, but I never hear of anything happening that there would need to be security for.

Local Area: It is friendly and safe however there are limited activities available because it is a small town.

Campus Food: The food is good, but slightly over-priced for the quality.

Parking: To park on campus you have to have a permit for each of the lots. If you park in a lot that you dont have a permit for you can be booted or fined. This isnt a problem since the campus is really close to most of the housing opportunites and you dont have to walk very far to get to your classes but during the winter because it is so cold most people want to drive and the parking lot is filled quickly so there arent many spots to park.

Campus Quality: My school is primarily dominated by LDS mmebers and it is wonderful to be able to be around people with the same standards and beliefs as I have. I teachers are also members so we are able to discuss the gospel in our classes and each is started with a prayer. I love the spirit of the area, and the friendliness. I havent been able to find that anywhere else.

Majors: I love the program that I am in. The difference between mine and other classes is that others have a lot of worksheets and homwork projects that get turned in for a grade so you can still end up with a decent grade if you dont do well on the tests. with mine, there is little to no homework so you prove you know the material through lab and tests. I like it because it means that less slackers make it through the systme because to do well you have to be self motivated.

Majors: I love being in the biological feild. Science fascinates me and i believe the teachers here are all knowledgable about their subjects and care about the students. Because marine biology is such a competative feild I do worry about finding a job because there are not all the many open and only the best of the best get taken.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: The process of gettting into my major was easy the only difficulty comes with making sure you know all the material because each class builds on the next.

Majors: I dont know if I will have an internship yet. I would love to have one somewhere more topical studying the benthos or other feild expereince for marine biology but I havent had any training positions as of current.

Off-Campus Housing: My wife and I live off campus and we are very satisfied with the off campus housing.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

BYU-Idaho professors and other students take a lot of interest in students personally, to help them achieve their academic goals and improve their overall well-being. They care about how you do in classes, what you have to contribute to the school, and what you're doing besides school to enhance your lifelong learning. The BYU-I experience really becomes what the students make it. Students who just study to get by learn to do the bare minimum with the least amount of effort, and students who want to make the most of their education and learn and grow from being a student work longer and harder in a variety of pursuits that span beyond academics.

It may be hard to believe that there are so many opportunities to develop skills in a given area from attending a little school in Rexburg, Idaho. But just as BYU-Idaho takes huge steps in innovating learning and maximizing resources, students learn to be innovative hard-workers who know how to problem-solve and communicate effectively. Most students who realize the potential they have in being admitted to this school and who take advantage of the opportunities offered here quickly learn how to make their BYU-Idaho experience worthwhile.
