3 College Student

Majors: It is pretty competitive to get into the program that I wanted to get into.

Majors: I;m not so sure anymore if what I have chosen is what I want to get into.

3 College Student

Technology: The computer labs are a bit behind and not with the times, but they're alright. If you need a computer, it's a good alternative.

4 College Student

Drug Safety: Drug use, if used, is not noticeable at all. It probably is, I mean there are lots of hormones and friends, so I can believe if it is happening.

Off-Campus Housing: It really depends on where you stay. I lived previously in some apartments that were just across the street from the school. The only problem was that the apartments were made in the 50's and were ragged and falling apart. Now I live in one of the top housing complexes. Only problem now is that I'm a 15 min walk away from campus. And the parking here is ridiculous.

Weather: I would not mind Idaho but the weather is just ridiculous. The weather here is so extreme. In the summer it gets unbearably hot and in the winter it gets incredibly cold. I am not a fan of the weather change here in Idaho. It also is very windy almost all the time.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: It's very rare to hear any stories about people drinking or smoking. You only see people who aren't part of the BYU Idaho scene that are there just for construction purposes who smoke or drink.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: I take a shuttle every morning to class but the shuttle stops at around 2 and my class goes till 4. So when I walk home in the winter, and I have no car, a 15 min walk in 22 below weather is not very pleasant. They have shuttles that travel to other more civilized places such as Salt Lake city, but I have never taken those before.

5 College Freshman

Scholarships: It was great to talk to my financial adviser and ask about what I can do personally to receive financial aid from the school or any other sources. I've applied and I get any financial aid sent straight to my account if I am qualified for it.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: All the intramural sports are played by people who deem themselves NBA status and think they know everything there is to it. There is no support from other people outside of the program; maybe significant others and a friend or two but it is not very popular.

4 College Freshman

Academics: BYU Idaho is a great school. It doesn't exactly offer all the courses that I would like to take but it is definitely a great place to start off my college career. Its rigorous, and challenge; preparing you for the ideal situation in the field you may enter.

Health & Safety: Theft is the biggest thing. Especially on Sundays and Monday nights. Just be sure to lock you doors.

Administration: I think they go too far on some things but other things I think they do well with. It is also nice to know you are not likly to walk in on something you do not want to see.

Off-Campus Housing: It is just as expensive as on campus housing and often cheaper but it is still expensive compared to other places. I would diffidently recommend it over on campus housing though!

5 College Junior

Drug Safety: There are very few drugs or drinking on campus and it's a big deal if some one does get caught with them.

4 College Junior

Local Area: If you like the outdoors it is awesome! There is so much to do all year long. If not then there is not much to do off campus. The locals tolerate us but some are friendlier than others.

4 College Junior

Majors: I really like the engineering program. I fell like most of the programs are well thought out and a lot of the department leads have worked in the workforce before they taught so they really try to tailor their programs to prepare you for a job.

4 College Junior

Majors: I like it. Like I said before it is structured around preparing you for the workforce.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: Just as long as you start early you usually don't have any problems. If you wait until the last min you are in for a headache.

3 College Junior

Technology: They are ok but students are expected to have laptops so they don't have the best and latest stuff in most of the labs.

4 College Student

Local Area: I have always felt like everyone is very happy and fun to be around. Their are many things to do as long as you get out and do them. The shopping is very close and I had to occasionally walk to get my groceries, which wasn't that big of a deal.

Drug Safety: This school has a very high quality honor code, which means keeping the Word of Wisdom. We do not partake of any drugs or alcohol of any kind, and if you do, you are kicked out.

Weather: It gets super cold in Idaho. It becomes difficult to walk in the snow, but the school always prepares for the winter season.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Rexburg, is a very small town and it have very little. We enjoy the few restaurants we do have.

4 College Junior

Athletics: From what I have seen the school caters to the athletic demands of the students very well.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

BYU-Idaho professors and other students take a lot of interest in students personally, to help them achieve their academic goals and improve their overall well-being. They care about how you do in classes, what you have to contribute to the school, and what you're doing besides school to enhance your lifelong learning. The BYU-I experience really becomes what the students make it. Students who just study to get by learn to do the bare minimum with the least amount of effort, and students who want to make the most of their education and learn and grow from being a student work longer and harder in a variety of pursuits that span beyond academics.

It may be hard to believe that there are so many opportunities to develop skills in a given area from attending a little school in Rexburg, Idaho. But just as BYU-Idaho takes huge steps in innovating learning and maximizing resources, students learn to be innovative hard-workers who know how to problem-solve and communicate effectively. Most students who realize the potential they have in being admitted to this school and who take advantage of the opportunities offered here quickly learn how to make their BYU-Idaho experience worthwhile.
