3 College Freshman

Administration: .I don't know much. Haven't heard to much good or bad.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Security is all about keeping it safe, not punishment. If you're caught with hard alcohol you could be put on social probation, especially if you need to get transported, but beer is easy to come by and you almost certainly won't get in trouble for it. If you're caught with drugs you will get in trouble, but if you're honest they'll probably give you an easy punishment.

Administration: Bowdoin respects its students and trusts us to do the right thing.

3 College Freshman

Administration: I feel as though they jump to conclusions sometimes.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: A lot of parts of the administration are really really amazing, and doing lots of work to make Bowdoin a better place to be. However, I have to say the administration as a whole is only okay, because certain higher-ups are VERY reticent to change, and keep policies in place that are long-standing but unjust. I'm part of several social justice clubs on campus, and we've gotten increasingly frustrated with the admin's mere lip-service to positive, constructive change without them actually working with us to accomplish something.

School policy states that no alcohol or drugs can be kept in campus housing where minors are present, but this policy doesn't seem to be followed at all times—then again, at what college can campus security maintain complete control over students and their drinking habits? In an attempt to monitor alcohol consumption and maintain a safe amount of alcohol on campus, the College rents kegs to the social houses, but other alcohol still finds its way onto campus. While Bowdoin Security seems to be pretty relaxed about knuckling down on illegal or excessive drinking, they shine when it comes to knowing when a party has spun out of control and may be unsafe. As a whole, the security employees are committed to taking care of Bowdoin students and keeping them safe—even after students have been irresponsible. For example, security always encourages students to call them if anyone is worried that another student might be at risk for alcohol poisoning. There are consequences that come along with security picking students up and taking them to Parkview Hospital, but they are at least cared for.

In regards to academics, the Honor Code reminds students of the importance of honesty in homework, taking exams, or running for student government. Anyone who violates this policy will have to go in front of the Judicial Board (J-Board), and just the threat of this tends to keep students honest. The J-Board is a student-appointed committee that, along with a faculty adviser, meets and discusses all student infringements of policy. In general, this committee exists more for precedent regarding academic integrity and student fights than for expelling students. On the whole, the College wants to see the students do well and succeed in all that they do.
