Diversity: It is very diverse. There are plenty of international students and it is fun meeting people from all over with such different backgrounds. A lot can be learned about culture and the world through spending time with people with different backgrounds.

Academics: Grade deflation is a nightmare and it takes a while getting used to being okay with lower grades than one received in high school

Academics: There are plenty of amazing options for classes and study abroad and there are some amazing professors. Registration is obviously stressful but the way it is done works very well. Students are able to change their entire course schedule up until the first day of classes without issue. Classes just tend to fill up before then.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: There is a lot of street parking but it is fairly pricey and fills up fast

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The train runs right through the center of campus and is very easily accessible but it does shut down so one must be aware of timing

4 College Sophomore

Technology: Each student receives 100 free prints to any of the on campus printers each semester

Greek Life: I personally am not into Greek life but many of my friends are in it. Sometimes it's hard to find parties without having the Greek life connections. Guys especially who don't join a frat have a very difficult time getting into frat parties.

Guys & Girls: Most guys fall into the sporty, preppy, or "hipster" categories. There isn't a whole lot of diversity when it comes to guys. Overall, the guys are average looking and many of the frat guys tend to be conceited- could be because of the poor guy-to-girl ratio.

Off-Campus Housing: It took me two months of searching for an off-campus apartment until I found one last semester. The prices are high (city pricing) and I'm still about a mile from the campus border. Safety could be better, but again, BU is in a city so it's hard to have a crime-free environment.

Diversity: There a lot of students from different backgrounds with varying political and social beliefs, but all seem to be very accepting of the diverse student body. I think that is a significant reason why many students are attracted to BU.

Scholarships: I received a merit-based scholarship (The Presidential Scholarship) worth $10,000/ semester. Without this scholarship I would not be able to attend Boston University.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Overly expensive for mediocre dorms.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Tons of museums, concerts, and plays with student discounts.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Campus is safe, but officers are sometimes very rude.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: My peers are ambitious and wordly-minded.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: It is my semester on campus, so I am still getting use to the student vibe.

Off-Campus Dining: The bookstore offers a coupon book filled with places of where to dine and receive discounts. Usually you show your student ID and they offer a discount. It is not major, but it helps save a few dollars. Plenty of places and variety choose from.

3 College Freshman

Weather: The winters are very cold in New England, therefore if you don't live near the campus it is difficult to travel back and forth without the feeling of waiting till the next game.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Everyone shows support for the various teams sports at the University. For example, attending games, wearing the t-shirts of the mascots or team logo.

Scholarships: BU offers a good amount of scholarship, but it is an expensive school, so obviously I would have liked to have received more. They are pretty reasonable in my experience. I've heard mixed things from other people.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is between okay and great. While there aren't too many options, the good ones are really good and then the others are alright. I haven't found much to complain about, probably because I'm not too picky. Some of the dorms can be old. Cleanliness is really good and for the most part, the locations are great except when there's the big difference between east and west. The housing process isn't too complicated, but it's done by seniority and you can easily end up with a "bad" number. I haven't experienced it, but I've heard of summer swap which can help if you do end up with a bad number.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: Students don't have cars since there isn't really a need for one. For students, parking isn't really that hard to find, but anywhere off campus would be nearly impossible.

5 College Sophomore

Technology: Considering BU is a huge school, computers are definitely accessible and work well. The internet is pretty high speed and there are plenty of places on campus to use a computer at such as the libraries. Printing on campus is relatively easy so you don't have to worry about buying and bringing a printer and ink. Your laptop can easily connect to the wireless access and rarely faces problems.

Overall Experience: I don't know what makes BU unique, but I certainly don't have much to complain about. I haven't been homesick too easily, I am well fed, I study hard, I feel within reach of any social activity that I may want, I have all sorts of resources available to me and Boston is a great place to be in.

Weather: The weather is typical for the east coast, but slightly colder. In my experience, there's been a good amount of snow. It can be unpredictable at times and, it might be just because I hate rain, but it seems to rain a decent amount. There are plenty of people from California that attend BU so, weather doesn't seem to be a huge problem for some.

While BU certainly has its downfalls, most of which are due to the sheer size of the University, there are plenty of opportunities to take full advantage of all that it has to offer. For the resourceful and motivated, a little effort will go a long way. The most important thing is to utilize your professors to your advantage. It is their job to be available to their students, and while some are certainly more attentive than others, students are not turned away by a professor when they have gone looking for opportunities or support.

Keeping busy, being well-organized, and choosing a course of study that truly stimulates your intellectual interests will all be really helpful in having a successful experience at BU. Many students dread graduation day, and therefore, leaving Boston is not something they look forward to. On the flip-side, countless others would argue the opposite perspective. Accept your environment and work with it, as well as against it. Do not stay inside for too long, and do not drink away your college years. Make school a priority, and hang out with your professors (they are the best resource you have). Boston is a huge city with a really large population of young people. If you are looking for a taste of city life, and think that you would be able to establish yourself at a big university in a high-paced atmosphere, it is definitely possible to find your niche here.
