4 College Freshman

Greek Life: I love greek life! I wish it was more accepted on campus by faculty and the school itself but over time our image will improve! It's a great way to make close friends and connections at such a large school.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: We are in the middle of Boston, there are so many restaurants either a T ride or a walk away. What more could you ask for?

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: BU has difficult classes but a great social scene where people are very friendly and welcoming.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: The freshman buildings are pretty typical of any college. There are few extremely nice housing options and they are very hard to get.

3 College Sophomore

Technology: There are next to no computer centers, but everything else is fine.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Every college campus has its probelms, you can't feel completely safe everywhere.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: No matter what you're into there's definitely something and someone here for you.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: The only real sports we have are basketball and hockey, and usually people only get riled up about the latter.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: The beauty of being in the city is the ability to take the T anywhere you need, public busses go where it does not, and the BU shuttle becomes your best friend.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: The administration is always gonna be a stickler about certain things.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: We have a giant department (one of the biggest at the school) and I have a lot of really interesting classes to choose from and lots of professors whose work really interests me.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: It's really hard to get an A in any respectable major here but that doesn't mean we don't have great professors and classes that really teach you things about life.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: We are by no means a party school but there is normal college drinking and drug use.

5 College Freshman

Transportation: Public transportation is great in Boston. You can take the T anywhere.

2 College Freshman

Weather: The only good weather is in the beginning of the fall semester

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are a lot of services but still it's a city and anyone can walk down Comm Ave so you have to be alert.

3 College Freshman

Administration: It's hard to smoke but be smart about having alcohol in the dorms and it will be fine

5 College Freshman

Academics: Engineering has a lot of classes. If you're looking for an easy time in college get into the College of Communications, they barely go to class. The study floor in Shelton is nice.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: I would go to Harvard for the parties, Allston is meh

1 College Freshman

Greek Life: Sororities cant have houses

Frats are off campus

5 College Freshman

Local Area: The T can take you to any event you want to go to.

5 College Freshman

Majors: So far I enjoy it.

5 College Freshman

Majors: I started as a Biomedical Engineer but switched to Computer Engineer within my first month. The process was hassle free. Have a good essay, they put a lot of weight on it.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: It can be hard to get someone on the phone during peak season after acceptances but they will work with you

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

While BU certainly has its downfalls, most of which are due to the sheer size of the University, there are plenty of opportunities to take full advantage of all that it has to offer. For the resourceful and motivated, a little effort will go a long way. The most important thing is to utilize your professors to your advantage. It is their job to be available to their students, and while some are certainly more attentive than others, students are not turned away by a professor when they have gone looking for opportunities or support.

Keeping busy, being well-organized, and choosing a course of study that truly stimulates your intellectual interests will all be really helpful in having a successful experience at BU. Many students dread graduation day, and therefore, leaving Boston is not something they look forward to. On the flip-side, countless others would argue the opposite perspective. Accept your environment and work with it, as well as against it. Do not stay inside for too long, and do not drink away your college years. Make school a priority, and hang out with your professors (they are the best resource you have). Boston is a huge city with a really large population of young people. If you are looking for a taste of city life, and think that you would be able to establish yourself at a big university in a high-paced atmosphere, it is definitely possible to find your niche here.
