Athletics: BU Hockey baby! You can't beat it. We have an awesome arena, which doubles as a great place to get a part time job. FitRec is awesome and has great facilities. New Balance Field is brand new and absolutely amazing. I don't think anyone could complain about athletics at BU!!

Majors: BU likes to see a well rounded student, so make sure grades are good, and that you also have a lot of extracurricular activities. They expect students who have been involved in a lot already, and will continue to enrich the BU community in this way. Definitely take a tour, visit, or contact them online to show interest. They like that a lot too -- speaking as someone who worked in admissions for all 4 of my undergrad years!

Majors: Really enjoyed my time as a psychology major. Some really cool classes to choose from and some really awesome professors to interact with.

Administration: Getting taken to the hospital from being "too drunk" to get into your dorm is a very nerve racking experience, and ones a few of my friends had to deal with. Not worth it, it's harsh. Same for drinking in the dorms. Harsh punishments.

Off-Campus Housing: I had one pretty terrible off campus housing situation Junior year, and one pretty okay but not spectacular experience during my Senior Year. My landlord was an idiot in junior year, and we literally lived among mice poop because he was too cheap to do anything real about it. It was a nightmare. Landlord senior year was much more professional, and the place was livable - so that's a plus!

Party Scene: Freshmen year it's all about the Allston Crawl, baby. You can and will find a party anywhere in Allston. After the first year, though, it loses it's appeal. For me, after my first year I stuck to smaller parties off campus at friend's places instead of at frats in Allston. It's tough to have any real parties in the dorms, and your punishment is strict if you're found out.

Campus Food: Dining halls are pretty great, and BU had a reputation for having some really awesome health/veg/vegan options. I was usually really satisfied and never left hungry. The GSU is a great place to use convenience points.

Campus Housing: A lot of options are not so great for lower classmen, like freshmen or sophomores. I had a really good number after my freshman year but still ended up with a pretty lackluster placement. There's always a lot of things to do on campus, and there's a really great sense of community within the dorms and even floor by floor. Cafeterias are convenient and are pretty good. I wasn't thrilled by my time living on campus, but I enjoyed it and met some awesome people!

Local Area: BU is in a great college town! There is always something to do, something to see, something to eat, somewhere to go, somewhere to party.

Academics: The academics are good. The workload for some majors is more than others. But academics are good. You definitely learn a lot.

Academics: Academics are "ok" here. I say they are "ok" because there is A LOT of grade deflation...meaning some professors will create exams and assignments to intentionally make sure students stay in the "B" range...not the "A" range.

But it's not like BU doesn't want you to succeed...actually that's exactly what it's like.

Work your butt off to a "B" and graduate with a "B".

Athletics: Sports are here it just depends on if you enjoy them or not.

Majors: We have a lot of majors...literally any kind of person could find something of interest to them...if they dont they can design their own major.

3 Recent Alumnus

Majors: I did not have an internship and did not need one for my major. However, some majors required internships and those students got set up with good ones.

Greek Life: Its a very small aspect of BU.

Diversity: It is very diverse in every way.

Guys & Girls: There are too many girls and not enough guys and the guys who are here are usually interested in guys.

Campus Quality: There are some really new and modern buildings and some extremely outdated buildings that probably have never been updated since they were built.

Administration: It is very strict but I feel like it is for the best...to ensure everyone is safe.

3 Recent Alumnus

Health & Safety: In the past there have been a lot of safety issues that are not necessarily BU's fault. They are due to external factors. But BU does its part to make sure school is safe...its the students who are the safety concern when it comes to sexual assault or theft.

3 College Junior

Athletics: Thought hockey was a huge deal at BU but not as much when you're actually a student. We're a relatively athletic school but fan support seems minimal.

5 College Junior

Campus Food: Lots of dining hall and food options. The dining hall is also actively seeking student feedback to make things even better.

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: I've never particularly felt unsafe considering the BU campus is the city of Boston. BUPD is easily accessible and there are blue lights all over campus in case of emergency.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Amazing professors and classes. Freedom to choose what classes you take is based on your major but I've honestly taken some of the most brain stimulating classes at BU. love it. (and of course there are the one of two eh professors and classes sprinkled in, like any other school)

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Big school, bigger alumni network. Always opportunity for internships and employment.

While BU certainly has its downfalls, most of which are due to the sheer size of the University, there are plenty of opportunities to take full advantage of all that it has to offer. For the resourceful and motivated, a little effort will go a long way. The most important thing is to utilize your professors to your advantage. It is their job to be available to their students, and while some are certainly more attentive than others, students are not turned away by a professor when they have gone looking for opportunities or support.

Keeping busy, being well-organized, and choosing a course of study that truly stimulates your intellectual interests will all be really helpful in having a successful experience at BU. Many students dread graduation day, and therefore, leaving Boston is not something they look forward to. On the flip-side, countless others would argue the opposite perspective. Accept your environment and work with it, as well as against it. Do not stay inside for too long, and do not drink away your college years. Make school a priority, and hang out with your professors (they are the best resource you have). Boston is a huge city with a really large population of young people. If you are looking for a taste of city life, and think that you would be able to establish yourself at a big university in a high-paced atmosphere, it is definitely possible to find your niche here.
