College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Kids are very well dressed, usually in preppy brands like Vineyard Vines and J.Crew. When it's warm enough, a lot of girls will wear dresses. Once it's cold, you'll see jeans or leggings with Bean boots, Uggs, or riding boots. Guys wear a lot of khakis and nice sweaters.

The hook-up culture is annoyingly prevalent. Many guys aren't interested in a relationship, but girls are. People start to "settle down" in junior or senior year.

Guys & Girls: Many of the girls are pretty attractive. One might not see it though. It's like looking for the prettiest flower out of a whole field of flowers.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Everyone is rich and stuck up and as the minority (poor and modest) I struggle to find quality friends. We have an unusually attractive and preppy student body (I'm talking vineyard vines, Gap, and Abercrombie) and the party scene is big but pretty limited given the absence of greek life.

Overall, Boston College is a remarkably attractive campus, although very homogenous. The girls are typically gorgeous (if by gorgeous, you mean blonde, thin, wealthy, and super smart). On the other hand, several students commented that BC guys, for whatever reason, are short and not very socially adept, though there are a few notable exceptions to this rule. Most students place a lot of emphasis on appearance, for better or for worse, so be prepared—this is not the kind of place where you walk around in ripped jeans and flip-flops or come to class still in your pajamas. In some ways it’s nice that everyone makes such an effort to look presentable, but it can also put pressure on you to look just as nice, even when you have an early class and stayed up all night finishing a paper.

The overall image for both sexes is a fairly preppy, Abercrombie & Fitch or J. Crew look, and most people on campus fit that description. There are people with other styles on campus, but they are few and far between. It might be a little overwhelming, for example, to walk around campus with a mohawk. Nobody would give you a hard time, but you might get some weird looks or become known as “the person with the mohawk” because you’d stand out so much. In short, you can dress or look however you want to, but you might be a little intimidated by how similar everyone else is.

Social Scene
The social scene at Boston College can be difficult to navigate for the first couple of years. On-campus drinking can be impossible, with the BCPD making their stern presence known loud and clear. Students don't want to run the risk of getting written up or getting slapped with housing probation that can shadow a student throughout his entire academic career. Boston College doesn't encourage drinking, and it certainly doesn't foster or tolerate underage drinking. Needless to say, many students find a way to play hard anyway.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups are generally considered much more common than relationships at BC. The party-hard attitude can make it difficult to maintain a serious relationship, although many students do consider themselves exclusive. It's pretty easy to find a willing hookup on any given Friday night, but as students get older, they seem more interested in forming long-term relationships.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
For those who are 21+, Mary Ann's is the best. Descriptions of the place range from "a fun dive bar" to "a disgusting health code violation," but one thing most students agree upon is that it's a perfect place to meet young, BC-attending members of the opposite sex. For students who aren't yet legal, house parties and Mods parties are great hunting grounds.
Dress Code
The dress code at Boston College is widely known as preppy. At times, it can seem that BC is the sole entity that keeps Abercrombie & Fitch in business. Many women like to dress up and show off their cute new outfits for class, whereas only a few guys bring out their exclusive wardrobes for an 11 a.m. seminar. Sweats and fleeces make appearances in many a class, especially the courses that start at 9 a.m. However, when asked, many BC students could care less about their appearance. It is always refreshing that the student body isn't entirely filled with Barbie and Ken dolls.
