5 College Freshman

Scholarships: BC's still need-blind, meaning that they do not accept more rich people than poor because they can afford to pay the school more.

Majors: Any major makes a large commitment of work necessary.

Administration: Interpretation of "It's the best" depends on how you interpret strict authority.

Campus Food: Top 75 food options in the country, the steak and cheese is the go-to sandwich.

Party Scene: Party scene is very drinking-centered, but if you want to drink, there's plenty of opportunities.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of great options near BC's main campus or a free BC bus ride away.

Athletics: At a school as academically well-rounded as BC, a D1 program as good as ours is hard to come by.

Guys & Girls: Everyone is well-dressed, loves to succeed and has fun on the weekends

Campus Housing: All of the on-campus facilities are well-maintained

Off-Campus Housing: Easy process to go through since most juniors live off-campus

Athletics: Personally I'm not really into athletics, but it's clear that it's a big part of campus life and school spirit. You can buy a Gold Pass for $200, which lets you go to an unlimited number of games and earn points for attending games, which can be redeemed for prizes. Unpopular sports earn more points, which helps get people to go to games and support smaller sports.

Off-Campus Dining: I like most of the spots, but the food isn't particularly adventurous or healthy

Campus Food: I hate the food here with a passion. Lunch is okay but as a freshman eating at Mac, dinner often feels like a chore.

Local Area: Chestnut Hill is nice but expensive and hard to get to. The Cleveland Circle area is very accessible via the Comm Ave bus, but it's really limited as far as things to do. It's definitely easy to get to Boston, though, and there's a lot to do there, obviously.

Athletics: Football and Hockey are big

Overall Experience: I LOVE BC! I'm having so much fun. The people are great, the campus is beautiful, and the classes are interesting.

Campus Food: The way BC's meal plan works is you start the semester with a set amount of money (the unlimited one is $2300). This seems like a lot of money, but everything is ridiculously expensive. You pay for what you buy. There isn't a limited amount of swipes per day or week or semester or anything, which is nice, especially if you're hungry more than 3 times a day.

For prices, here are some examples. A tomato mozzarella sandwich is $6.99. A plate of pasta with sauce and some veggies is $11.99. A smoothie is also around $7.

People that eat a lot struggle to make their $2300 last, while others finish the semester with $400 left.

Off-Campus Dining: Boston has endless options, & they're accessible.

Campus Food: Some food options are excellent! Stuart Dining on Newton campus feels as if it's behind though, with limited options that aren't always up to par with upper/lower dining

Local Area: It's really nice, and very college-oriented. Boston is an amazing city!

Off-Campus Dining: I only know of a few places immediately outside of BC, but I can imagine the options in the city of Boston are limitless! No transportation to Boston directly from BC though, so I wouldn't consider that "off-campus" because of the 20-25 min car ride

The general feeling seems to be that Boston College is a wonderful school and an incredible experience. However, the first few years can be tough, as you may not be prepared for the enormity of the college experience. If you’re from a very diverse high school, you will certainly be shocked at the very different atmosphere that will surround you at BC. Furthermore, so many of your peers can appear like they’re having the time of their lives, and you might feel like you’re faking it, especially at first. Yet, staying the course is absolutely worth it, as Boston College is a wonderful institution with many dynamic people who will truly challenge and amaze you. If you give the school a little time to grow on you, it certainly will and you’ll be really glad you gave it
a chance.

Also keep in mind that while parties and tailgates are enjoyable, they are not the only things college life is about. Yes, you want to have fun, and you will once you get to know people a little better, but there are other reasons you came here. Remember that you are going to college to receive an exceptional college education, and Boston College will certainly deliver that and then some. Friendships flourish, enriching academics abound, and you’ll walk away a changed person.
