5 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: My friends here are Christ-loving kids who want to serve Him.

4 College Senior

Guys & Girls: I have a hard time saying "it's great" or just "okay" at my school with the guys and girls. The girls I know here are super friendly and kind, and are always there for me when I'm in a bind. Most of the girls I would say are very mature and dedicated, while a few are not so focused on their studies. The guys here are kind of a mixed bag. There are plenty of nice, smarty, attractive and athletic guys, but those seem to be overshadowed by the awkward type -- the kind of guys who don't know how to read social cues, and are unfortunately the more vocal ones on campus.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The relationships made here are some of the best!

1 person found this useful Report
3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: Everything is about modern. Usually students are encouraged to dress presentable, like men will wear collared shirts and khaki pants. While women can wear nice shirts, and skirts or dresses. Modest wear.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There generally are a lot of dating couples socializing often. Relationships among students beyond dating are great. Students interact comfortably and happily. One can always see some group of students chatting and having fun together.

BJU students tend to be attracted to one another. The students, who are eager to look for a Christian spouse, tend to find one within the fence. Dating rules at Bob Jones University are the strictest of any college campus. Couples are not allowed to hold hands, kiss, or have any type of sexual relationship. A majority of rebellious couples gets expelled from school for going off campus together. At first, new students are overwhelmed by the couples in their own little world. Soon, though, these new students get used to the scene, or they find their soulmate and join the gazing couples at Social Parlor. There are more girls than guys at school, and some guys tend to take advantage of the ratio.

Students dress very modestly because of the school’s strict dress code. Their hair is neat, shirts are pressed, and shoes are shiny. Girls are required to wear skirts that cover the knee, and guys have to wear dress pants and shirts that are pressed. Because of the strict rule, most students are not distracted by the opposite sex nor their clothing.

Hookups or Relationships?
Dating on the campus may seem strange at first. Couples are not allowed to have any physical contact. Students tend to get into serious relationships since a lot of them grew up in a family that does not allow shallow relationships. However, random hookups happen through society outings, church services, and meals.
Dress Code
BJU is known for its strict dress code, including neat hair, no tattoo or body piercings, and modest clothing. For guys, the dress code is divided into morning, afternoon, recreation, and Sunday (formal). In the morning, they must wear dress pants with dress shirts. The good news is that wearing a tie became optional in 2010. In the afternoon, guys may change their dress shirts into collared shirts and neat pants. On Sundays, or for formal occasions, guys must wear dress pants, dress shirts, dress shoes, ties, and coats. Jeans are only allowed for recreation and work. Girls must wear skirts that cover their knees and shirts that are no lower than four fingers below their collarbone. Hose must be worn for Sunday morning services and for formal events. Jeans are allowed on Saturdays and for recreation and work.
