Campus Food

3 College Senior

Campus Food: There is definitely huge space for improvement with the campus food. The snack shop is wonderful, but you only get a small amount of dining dollars to use there. I would like to be able to use my dining dollars for my choice of food on campus. The dining common is good, and I can get salads; though some variety would be nice.

Campus Food: Need wider variety of food options....

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: Dining Common food, as expected, is mass-prepared, and tastes like it. It's adequate, but usually not incredible. A lot of the food is also heavily repeated. The Den is a nice occasional haven from the Dining Common, with options of Chik-fil-a and Papa John's.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: I like the fact that you can swipe your card and enter the dining common as many times as you want. Plus, the hours are very reasonable. Sometimes the food isn't always wonderful, however you happily eat what you are given, and there is never a chance you will go hungry.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The availability of the food is really good, because the dining hall is open all day on business days. The variety of the food depends on the week.. sometimes they have really good food! Other times you find ways to improvise and get creative.

Unfortunately, there’s only one dining hall at BJU. Regardless of one’s classification, BJU requires all resident students to pay for a meal plan, which frustrates upperclassmen. Complaints do not end there! To feed thousands of students three meals a day on BJU's budget, all food is mass produced. While a lot of students complain about the unhealthy food, the atmosphere of the dining hall doesn't help students’ appetites, either, with frequent long lines formed by hungry students. The dining hall’s soda fountains, heavy Southern foods, and sweet desserts tempt first-year students to get into unhealthy eating habits. The students must watch their diets and control the amount they consume; otherwise, they will face gaining the Freshman 15. BJU’s food can be a culture shock to first-year students who are used to homemade food. The Snack Shop and Fast Break provide a variety of options for those who are tired of the Dixon-McKenzie Dining Common; however, BJU’s current meal plan does not cover the cost of food at these on-campus locations.

Don’t be scared yet. Year by year, BJU has made improvements to the dining common’s food quality. The University provides salad, rice, fruit, and deli bars at lunch and dinner to help students balance their diets. BJU is planning on renovating the dining common in 2011 to upgrade the atmosphere and the quality of the food.
