Scholarships: Biola University provides most students with some financial aid, and God seems to provide the students in need of additional aid with the money they need to attend.

Transportation: Although the school offers no "official" transportation, the student population is very generous in offering off-campus transportation to activities, airports and local doctors.
The school does provide intermittent shuttle service for shopping.

Scholarships: Process Could Have Been More Student Friendly – I've had to call everyday for the past month to solidify my financial aid. If I hadn't I'd probably be paying $15,000 more. I really had to get what I wanted myself. And I'm living off campus to save money. I wasn't impressed with the financial aid.

Guys & Girls: The Biola dating scene can definitely be a bit odd. Mainly because there are a select group of people dating solely for marriage. So, often times people don't casually date. However, I have many friends who are in awesome relationships with people they met at Biola. So it really depends on each individual's scenario. It's a great school with a great community.

Health & Safety: Totally Safe Campus! Biola is well-lit and the campus safety staff are incredibly capable and well-trained. If you are ever nervous to walk to your car alone, just give dispatch a quick call and someone will come and escort you to your vehicle. Biola's crime rate is very low. There were only a handful of petty thefts my entire 4-year school career here.

Campus Quality: Awesome School – I love this school!! The campus is so alive with positive indiviuals, both students and staff. The staff was extremely helpful throughout the entire admissions process.

Majors: Don't Be Afraid! I am a current Psychology student. I have enjoyed the openness of the staff in the department as they often meet with me and help keep me on track. I plan on having an internship as I study abroad this semester! There are specific requirements but they department is extremely helpful in making sure all requirements have been met. It was slightly daunting to find an internship but I realized that Biola's psychology department urges you to get one because psychology is about engaging with people!

Campus Housing: Community, Community, Community! I have lived in several dorms as well as lived in off-campus housing. I have enjoyed each dorm as they usually have different set ups: triple, doubles, community bathrooms, suit bathroom styles, ect. Every dorm is unique with different traditions, amazing Resident Assistants, and great community. The one downer about housing is the process you go through after freshman year.

Health & Safety: A Is for Always Secure – Biola University's Department of Campus Safety makes great efforts towards securing Biola's property, informing and equipping students to be aware of their surroundings, and finally, they focus on immediate and great customer service. Campus police are present during all hours of the day. As a student, I appreciate that they are friendly, answer questions and respond to both small and great circumstances immediately. During late hours they offer safety escorts to all students to ensure their safety and as well as ensure that students feel comfortable on their own campus. The face of Campus Safety, the Chief, is ever present. He offers self-defense courses several times a semester and speaks in on-campus seminars often about self-protection and crime prevention. In the event of an emergency the campus is informed through text messages, email and phone calls. I definitely feel safe being informed and aware. Finally, the Campus Safety Administration office is always of great help. They are patient in answering both student and parent questions. Although the student population is growing the Campus Safety Department has responded in positive ways by increasing their officers, cadets and gate attendants. I feel safe knowing that 24/7 Biola's campus is always secure!

Campus Housing: Great Community – People build each other up in the dorms rather than tearing them down. The dorms are all nice to live in, with air conditioning in most of them and wifi in all of them.

Technology: Labs Are Open a Majority of the Year – For finals, it can be tough finding a place to study other than the dorm, even in computer labs. But for the rest of the year, students can find a computer somewhere on campus to use.

Overall Experience: There are many opportunities to serve the community around the school, many events occur on campus bringing in speakers and bands from around the world.

Local Area: Center of Culture – Biola is located in LA county- the zenith of art and culture in southern California. There are tons of things to see, people to meet, and things to do within driving distance. Most students take advantage of our SoCal beaches on the weekends!

Weather: Located in sunny, southern California, the weather here is temperate. It's mildly humid for most of the year with summer highs (usually) in the high 70's to high 90's. Winters are good for those who hate the cold. It never snows in LA county. Mildly chilly temperatures from the low 30's to the mid 60's.

Administration: Party People Need Not Apply – If you're looking for a party school, this isn't it. This is a dry campus, a drug-free campus, and a non-smoking school. The code of conduct makes for a friendly, loving, safe, and distraction-free environment to grow together as a community of believer. The majority of us like the "Community Standards," and those who choose to violate them are disciplined with grace and compassion.

Scholarships: Fairly Simple – Financial aid at any school can be a little crazy. Thankfully, Biola University works through the chaos and really dedicates sincerity to its students. I had a lot of trouble with figuring out my finances this year, but thanks to financial aid I was able to figure things out before all the deadlines. They emailed me concerning deadlines I needed to be aware of, and they were really helpful over the phone whenever I called to ask questions.

Parking: Parking used to be a bit of a problem until last year, when they built the new 4-story parking structure. It's conveniently located at the center of the school so you can easily find parking there without worrying about being late too class. Remember to buy your parking permit at the beginning of the school year if you plan to keep your car on-campus. If you're a visitor, remember to get a visitor's pass at Metzker Office to avoid being ticketed by Campus Safety. As long as you remember to do that, you'll have no problem with parking at Biola!

Academics: Professional Yet Compassionate – Our Biola professors are known to be professional, yet highly compassionate people. They won't give you a higher grade because you give them the dog eyes, but they will take the time to sit down with you and hear your story. They are always more than willing to pray for you, and many of my friends even schedule lunch appointments to have a meal with their professors. They are an amazing part of life at Biola.

Academics: Biblical Studies – Biola University is a Christian University that specializes in teaching students about the Word of God. That being said, Biblical Studies is one of the top majors to be a part of. We have some of the best bible professors in the world who accurately teach students about the Scriptures. Every class and every lecture takes you closer to the heart of God as you learn about the character of God and His redemptive plan for man.

Party Scene: How one would grade Biola's nightlife would depend on how exactly they define "nightlife". If by great "nightlife" you mean lots of crazy parties, good local clubs/bars, etc., then Biola's nightlife is nonexistent. Students are required to sign a contract upon enrollment which prohibits them from any sort of drinking whatsoever (even after turning 21), extramarital sex, smoking, consumption of illegal drugs, and dancing, but the "dancing" bit of the contract isn't enforced too strictly. Additionally, La Mirada (the surrounding area) isn't exactly a college town. So as far as the typical standards of "nightlife" go, Biola basically has none. There are definitely pros and cons to this. On one hand, one doesn't really have to worry about their roommate coming back at 3 a.m. drunk and vomiting or with drugs, but on the other hand, the campus vibe can be a bit dull. Still, without the presence of a tradition party/nightlife scene, there are plenty of things to do on and off campus when one is not in class.

Campus Quality: Not Bad, Not Great. I have a feeling that Biola's dorms are about average, as are the facilities throughout the rest of the campus, but compared with other, bigger schools, I'm not sure how they compete. The facilities are a pretty nice quality, and they're well maintained, but they don't have much to offer. The library is on the smaller side, and some of the dorms are small/old. From what I understand, however, Biola is working to update and renovate its older classrooms and dormitories. They recently opened a new building for the Talbot School of Theology, two new dorms have been opened in the last ten years, and areas of the campus have been renovated. However, many of my classes are in rather worn down buildings, including 12 of my 18 units that are in portable classrooms. All that said, Biola is well aware of this fact, and is working hard to improve its facilities. I'm sure that in 10-15 years, things will look much better.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: If by "diversity" you mean "students from a wide variety of religious and ethnic backgrounds", then Biola is not incredibly diverse. One must be a Christian to attend Biola, and Biola's ethnic make-up is primarily white and middle class. However, there are substantial ethnic African-American, Hispanic and Asian minorities, and from my own experience, most people are very accepting of one another. Biola is careful to create space where racial and religious dialogue can take place, so much so that it can seem like too much sometimes. Biola may not be the most evenly diverse place, but its population is one that is very tolerant and respectful.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Down the Street – If you leave Biola and go down the street a bit, there are two shopping malls/areas withing 20 min. Each one has various options with food and price. We can go to a fancy dine-in restaurant or just a quick ice cream run if you wanted.

5 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Dry Campus – The way drugs and alcohol are seen on campus are very few and far between. I never see anyone having or doing any drugs of any sort. That goes along with alcohol as well.

2 College Sophomore

Diversity: Biola is primarily caucasion, and being that it is a Christian school, most all students share similar beliefs and philosophies. However, many minority groups have voices that allow for knowledge about other cultures, and missions work helps us to be aware of other ethnic and religious groups.

Biola boasts an amazing Christian fellowship that's focused on delivering the Gospel, not only to its students, but to the world surrounding it. In taking classes and attending lectures, students feel much more apt to take on the world, not only with renewed and strengthened faith, but also with a professional education.

Biola can be an adjustment. But once you get involved with on-campus jobs and school events, it becomes much easier. After spending time with the students and faculty, you'll come to realize that you'll never find a school quite like this. But it takes a little bit of work at first. Biola's teaching is amazing, and the community is unparalleled. Nowhere else on Earth can students strike up random conversations with anyone and be able to "Facebook-friend" them and ask them to coffee the very next day. If you value your education and want to surround yourself with God-fearing students serving each other and the Lord, then Biola is the place for you!
