Majors: My career goal is to be an author. I have no illusions regarding the difficulty of that field, and I know it will be difficult in the publishing industry, but I feel that the professors of the department at my school are the absolute best people I could go to for assistance and advice to guide me through this process. I'm not at all concerned about finding a job in my field, simply because I know that I will have to have a secondary job on hand while I'm writing to begin with, and the professors in my department are completely able to aid me in gaining the knowledge I need to still work in the field and not lose myself in the slush pile after graduation.

Scholarships: The financial aid process is ongoing and requires a definite level of proactivity on the part of the student. Without your involvement in the process, it will not go very far past scholarship recommendations. As a student who is going through college without any loans whatsoever, it's extremely important to be proactive regarding scholarships and family financial involvement. Some people think it's impossible to go through college without any loans. It's difficult, certainly, but never impossible, and it's worth it so that you don't have to pay off loans for ten to twelve years after graduating college. That makes the work with the scholarships so much easier to bear, knowing that it will keep me from paying back loans in the future.

Academics: The academics offered at this school are top-notch. The professors are welcoming and personal; they want to actually know the students and how they are doing throughout college life. It's easy to talk with them during office hours, class, or just on campus. The workload is heavy, but absolutely worth it. Study areas are available everywhere on campus to anyone, and it's easy to organize study groups with other students. The registration process is a little difficult sometimes, but that's average for any college across the board. In the case of this school, it's relatively easier than with other colleges, I'd say. The honors program, as aforementioned, is absolutely unparalleled.

Academics: The English department is definitely a fun, interesting, and welcoming department that likes to include every student within it in all of its various activities. There are constant updates from the head of the department regarding internship and career opportunities, and because of the versatility of the major, there are several more opportunities presented on and off campus. For instance, one can easily get connected with the campus newspaper and become a freelancer or even editor's assistant within the first year, even the first semester. The workload of the major is challenging, but interesting and fun.

Weather: It's in Los Angeles, and the weather is roughly 70 degrees year-round. It's far enough from downtown and the center of the city that the smog isn't a problem, and the sky is almost always clear and blue. It rarely gets cold, and rains only a fraction of the year.

Drug Safety: This school knows that you don't have to have drugs and alcohol to have a good time in college. Students are very aware that the social scene doesn't have to involve those things, and the community is one of the best I've ever encountered, the absolute best of any college I visited, for sure. Drugs and alcohol just aren't on campus, and students like it that way.

Athletics: The campus athletics are great, and our teams are very talented and determined to do their absolute best. As far as fan support and school spirit goes, it wavers from time to time, but anyone who attends a game can't stay lukewarm for very long. The school spirit at the games is great. The athletic facilities are wonderful and can be used by any student, not just the athletes.

Campus Quality: The campus life is great, simply because I feel safe and welcome on campus at all times. The community there is wonderful, absolutely above and beyond any school I visited before enrolling here. We're the 4th lowest "party school" in the nation, but that's because we have a wonderful community that knows that partying can be clean, alcohol- and drug-free, and be fun for everyone involved. Another unique aspect is the honors program, the Torrey Honors Institute. It's unlike any other program I've ever encountered or even heard of. It definitely brings education to an entirely new level.

Campus Quality: The campus is small enough that walking from my dorm to my first class, which is completely on the other side of campus, only takes me maybe 8-10 minutes. It's a gorgeous campus, very well kept and beautiful. The size is very convenient. The library and the many courtyards are wonderful study places and are very conveniently available. As far as campus events go, I've been very pleased so far. There are several fun activities throughout the semester to help students get a nice rest from studying, but they're geared so that you're not completely distracted from your work either. Chapels are a huge plus and I love attending the various concerts and plays on campus. Study Break is a fun hangout night in the cafeteria for all students in the space just before finals week, to give our brains a bit of a break. Overall the campus experience is fantastic.

Health & Safety: The campus is extremely safe at all hours and crime is very uncommon on campus, which is unusual for a college in the Los Angeles area. The campus health center is very convenient and high quality.

Academics: I love my school and like noted above having all of my professors being professing Christians is my favorite part, they can share and teach us things that will help us become great professionals but also great men and women of God.

Academics: I think that Biola has some of the brightest professors that this country has to offer. I love that each and every single one of our professors are professing Christians. That was the big turning point for me to come to Biola.

Off-Campus Housing: We are located in the suburbs so many of the houses that go for sale can be purchased by Biola Students.

Off-Campus Dining: Biola is located in the suburbs but there are still many dinning options off campus that we can go too.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I come from and athletic background playing and attending sports throughout high school, at Biola games are encouraged to go too but the school spirit is rather low at times.

1 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Biola does not have any Greek life on it's campus.

4 College Sophomore

Parking: I don't have a car of my own but the easy of parking with friends close to our dorm or to classes is really easy.

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I think that Biola University is a very safe community to live in. The surrounding communities are very safe as well.

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: Biola really isn't a diverse school most of the students that attend it are Caucasian.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I love Biola's housing the Facilities are amazing, but I am not too thrilled about Open and Closed hours.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: You really just have to push for it, the people that work in the Financial Aid department really do care and want to help us at Biola.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: great places are worth the 20-30 min drives. not too much in the direct vicinity of campus

3 College Freshman

Administration: Biola is strict about drugs and alcohol because its a Christian school. most kids who attend don't do that stuff anyways.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: the biola ratio makes more girls than guys, but theres always ring by spring !

3 College Freshman

Local Area: it can sometimes take awhile to get fun places, but beaches and LA are within an hour away or less

Biola boasts an amazing Christian fellowship that's focused on delivering the Gospel, not only to its students, but to the world surrounding it. In taking classes and attending lectures, students feel much more apt to take on the world, not only with renewed and strengthened faith, but also with a professional education.

Biola can be an adjustment. But once you get involved with on-campus jobs and school events, it becomes much easier. After spending time with the students and faculty, you'll come to realize that you'll never find a school quite like this. But it takes a little bit of work at first. Biola's teaching is amazing, and the community is unparalleled. Nowhere else on Earth can students strike up random conversations with anyone and be able to "Facebook-friend" them and ask them to coffee the very next day. If you value your education and want to surround yourself with God-fearing students serving each other and the Lord, then Biola is the place for you!
